Has anyone ever heard of using fly ash to seal leaks in a pond?
I was talking to a local Ag company about bentonite and he said that he knew of a guy that got it for free from a local electricity producing plant. Does that have any negative impact on the health of the fish?

The thing about it I find possibly hard to believe is that it would be "free." Many generation facilities actually sell it as a product for use in concrete and similar products.

There is a thread here (search function not working)on fly ash. The problem is the potential for heavy metals in the ash IIRC.

fly ash can have the metals as stated above but other chemicals like PAHs which can be carcenigens, not good for the fish and really not good if people eat the fish, skip the flyash and stick with a commerical product
