As usual I've been gone for nearly the past week, and I'm off again for three days as of tomorrow morning.

cry Don't look if you don't like snakes! cry

I went out to pick the tomatoes this evening. I keep "bird netting" over the tomatoes to keep most of the critters out. When I started to pull up the netting this evening, it seemed a little heavy, and it was moving.

Two black snakes have gotten themselves hopelessly entangled in the netting. One is about 5-foot long, the other is about 3-foot long. For now, I can't get them out -- and they can't get out. I've tried to pull them forward and backward. It doesn't work. Cutting them loose will ruin about $25 worth of netting.

Silly snakes. They should stick to stealing rootbeer and imitating sticks.

I'm disappointed in you guys! Do your really think I would have eaten one of these critters?

After I freed the small snake, it took me a while to free the larger snake. It took a lot of cutting, and they weren't real cooperative.

So anyway, after what I put them through, I invited the bigger snake in for one of my favorite tomato recipes (ESSHUP has the recipe). As soon as the last strand was cut, that darn snake stuck his tongue out at me, and slithered off saying he didn't like tomatoes!

I now understand why snakes have such a bad reputation!

Ken

About 2 mths ago I was headed down to the feeder on the pier with a bucket of feed in each hand. As you come down the hill there is a blind step just before the front edge of the pier. As I got there in mid-step I looked down and there were 2 water moccasins (2 ½ and 3 feet) mating. I am glad I still have a bounce in my step and that it was long enough to make the pier. I set the buckets down on the pier. Jumped back over the distracted snakes and got the proper dispatching tool from the suv. That was a stupid place for them to get frisky.

I'm glad that you saw them. I can't imagine that getting bit by two snakes at the same time would have done you any good.

Nope. By the time I got back they had separated and were 3 feet apart and headed in different directions.
