I started digging my pond yesterday and didnt get very far. It appears that I should have NO problem with it holding water, which creates another problem. The pond is filling up with water almost as quick as I can dig (run off, and when it does rain it doesnt take much for what little that is dug to hold water. If I tried to wait until we had dry days AND all the ground was dry that would probably be about 2 weeks with no rain. Then it would take a day or so at minimum to pump the water out. I am digging with a backhoe so its a slow process. It is a hole in the ground, with no dam. Any advice?

A bigger pump or a bigger machine to dig with, that's the only solution. I dug my pond with a pump running the entire time too, it can be done.

Ditto. I ran a 15,000 GPH pump for 12 hours each day before we started to dig that day. It was a PITA, but that was the only way that we could dig and not be digging in 10'+ deep water.
I'd fire it up @ 3:30 a.m. every day and we'd start digging after work.

Any idea what a pump this size would rent for? Or am I better of just buying one?

75 to 100 a day plus hoses. How many days do you need it for. You can buy a 3" pump for ~$750 so if you need it for more than 7 day you are typically better off buying.

Look in Northern Tool for a 3" trash pump with a honda motor that pumps 15,000 gph. Add between $100 and $200 for hoses and fittings.

I know nothing about that brand of pump. You can't get a really good 2" with hoses for that price.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
