Anyone have any experience feeding AM LMB pellets to HSB? Mine are getting to the size that I think they could handle a larger pellet, and they are ignoring the 500 completely and I can't seem to throw enough 600 to satisfy them. That's why I'm considering graduating to the next size up, and I think AM LMB is the only high protein pellet available the next size over 600.

Also, do TH feeders have problems throwing a large pellet like the LMB which is 3/4 - 1" diameter?

Any experience or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

My tf will not throw the lmb size. I have a few hsb that are hitting it as a reflex but not eating it fast enough to keep the cc away. My hsb like yours could eat 600 until they blew up.

Well, esshup was kind enough to share some LMB pellets with me. My HSB have taken some. I think they will take it more easily over time. I just started this about a week ago, so the experiment is young. They seem to like them when they soften a bit which does not take very long. This may be hard to do, but hold off feeding them a couple days and then try some. I was gone for the weekend and when I returned, they seemed to take them more readily. How big are your HSB? I would estimate mine in the 14" - 15" range. I have not caught one in a couple months due to the warm weather.

Also, the BG really like the LMB pellets once they soften up too!

Oh, and I throw food by hand. I don't have a feeder.

TJ, the only feeder that will handle the AM Largemouth is the Sweeney feeder that's specifically made for those large pellets.

Thanks guys...appreciate the feedback! My HSB are anywhere from 8-17" as I have three different year classes. I think my SMB could also handle the pellets...we shall see.

Yes TJ Sweeney was the only commericial producer of feeder for the large pellets. Now that they are out of business not sure what is going to happen-might not be an option for the AM LMB right now. Maybe we can talk THP into making one to disperse AM LMB.

Thanks Greg - that's sad news RE Sweeney - I know many here enjoyed great relationships with their organization and spoke highly of their quality feeders.

Maybe Pond Boss members should make an effort to buy Sweeney - make it a Cooperative.

I called and got the same message. Let us know what you find out. It'd be a shame to lose them.

If they filed bankruptcy they could easily reopen and continue doing business.

TJ I am doing the same test as you. I started by cutting the LMB pellets in half and that worked. Now an starting to include whole pellets. So far so good.

Just ordered - $29/40 lb bag. How's that compare with your pricing, boys?

Sweeney's web site is up and running and I just called their 800 number and Zach had a recording indicating they were working through a back log of orders and customer service requests. Hopefully the reports of Sweeney Feeders death are premature.

I'll let you know tomorrow when I pick up a couple bags of 600. That price is close to what I'm paying for 600 (IIRC).

I didn't get a chance to look at the number but I just bought some 41% AM. It was all the feed store had. $36.95 for 50 lbs.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

My last feed bill was $30.00 for AQMX 600.
500 usually runs a buck or so less.

I wish I could find these prices, it is close to $50 bucks here for Aquamax, that is why I started with GFC.

Once I get my feeders going though I may change.

MRHELLO - Are you buying from a Purina or a middle man?

I just picked up bags of 5DO5 and 5DO6 for $25.50 each from my Purina dealer.

From a feed store, did not realize you could get them from a dealer. What sizes are the ones you just bought?

Plus if I could get it for that price I would leave work right now to pick it up.

MRHELLO: Go to the Purina web site and click on the dealer location info. That tells you what dealer is closest to the zip code you enter. I know part of the price difference from one dealer to another can be cost of delivery, but I hear of prices all the way up to $50.00 a bag vs. the $25.50 I pay but I can't see that much for delivery.

I bought both the ADO5 and ADO6 and they were the same $25.50 each.
