The recent AFS mag. Fisheries (you should be a member)contained an article and web site for fish ID from U. of Wisc. at the link below. It has a lot of (4600 ) pic for download or CD. You may want to take a look. I have not downloaded the software yet. http://wiscfish.org

Finally had time to play with the Wisconsin Fish ID site. WOW! You visually select features like spines, snout shape, body shape, stripes, tail shape, and the database narrows down that list of possible species to match what you have selected. Then you can click on a species and see multiple pictures of it to confirm it's the fish you are looking for. Really neat. Available in a Download-to-CD as well.
Everybody ought to take a look at the site ewest listed. Ewest or Bill Cody ought to add the link to the Q&A archives at the top of the forum.

Theo you are right that is a great site. We should all email U of W and let them know. I down loaded the software and then looked up BG. It had multi views, side ,top ,head , from several fish , also adults ,yoy , and crosses BG x PS , BG x GSF and they can be enlarged in a separate window. It has a ton more features also for fish id. It has written info as well and comparisons --for example sunfish are compared.
