Well, I didn't get cold feet and said I do. So I am now a married man. We stopped in NYC for the first two night. I saw more police officers in NYC than I have seen anywhere. The department was obviously trying to make people feel safe via high presence. Ellis Island, maybe some on here had relatives who came through there when they first came to America. Statue of Liberty My dinner at the Grand Central Oyster Bar, 28 oysters and 4 clams on the half shell! Mmmmm From NYC we drove north to Bar Harbor, ME. Did I mention Maine is one big state? Very pretty scenery along the ride there though. The view from the back porch of our room at the edge of Frenchman Bay.

Sunset on Frenchman Bay A couple shots of the hiking trail as we climbed to the summit of Cadillac Mountain. A view from the summit of Cadillac Mountain. A view from near the summit looking down on Bar Harbor near the water's edge and the Porcupine islands in Frenchman Bay. The tides there were huge... The difference between high and low tide was easily 10 plus feet. In this photo, at high tide the water would be over my head. At low tide, the rocks covered in seaweed are exposed. The most common seaweed there was bladderwrack. Sarah and I went out on a head boat one morning. The fishing wasn't great, but we did manage to catch a few fish. A harbor pollock A shorthorn sculpin Rosa Rugosa or beach rose was growing all over near the coastal areas. It was introduced from Japan and has huge rose hip fruits.

One of my favorite Maine foods, steamer clams... Mmmmm More Cherrystone clams on the half shell More oysters on the half shell Soft shelled crabs and sweet potato fries I gotta admit, even with all the hiking we did, I gained 5 pounds! I ate some tasty food! If you've never been to Acadia National Park and the Bar Harbor, ME area I highly recommend it. It was Sarah and I's first visit and we plan on going back. The area has great food, scenery, lots of things to do and you can do it very cheap if you don't stay right on the water. OK, now I gotta get to being a good husband.

Congrats Travis. Love those scenery pics of Maine. I think the wife and I will be headed up that way next summer. Actually it's a sure thing after you mentioned the seafood!

Congratulations!
My family went to Bar Harbor when I was 10-11 years old and we had a blast. I remember going onto this pier with my brother, and taking turns fishing. We literally caught a mackerel every 2nd or 3rd cast, incredible stuff. Very scenic too.

It was my honeymoon so as much as I really wanted to and Sarah probably would have allowed me, I left the fishing rods at home... However, at night on the pier, you could see thousands of 8"-14" Atlantic mackerel swimming by. It was near torture not being able to cast a spoon or jig a mackerel tree at them!

I am not good at math or calculating, but according to the timing of the full moon this month and all things considered, the stork should be dropping by next summer.

Enjoy some time being DINKs (dual income no kids).
Granted, I guess that depends on how old you are.

We are but youngins at 30 years old. We're hoping for a late spring birthday. That way maternity leave bleeds into summer as she is a school teacher and has them off. The way the economy is, we're holding off til we see where things go. But, God makes the final decision when kids come...

While I can understand the logic here, I'm not sure I can fully agree unless you don't sign on for any methods of prevention!

If you wait, you will wonder why you waited so long. The wife and I are both older than 30, I was 31 when we met. We are working on our second one right now, well not as I type, but you get the idea.

Very wise choice Travis. Have your fun and when you're ready to become parents, you will be much less self centered in parenting.

My wife (ex now) & I got married at 35 & 40 (me) for the first time each. We had been together for a couple of years so had already had a lot of travel etc. We had our two boys when she was 37.5 & 40. Now they are 23 & 21 (working & senior in College) and really a lot of fun to have them that young. Of course, if grandkids ever come (both boys are single) I'll be kinda old, but at least my boys won't have to wait until they are 50+ before I die and leave them my vast fortune (one b&w TV, a shovel, and 3 golf balls). My 3.5 cents worth (inflation) is to enjoy yourself now, because when the kids come, your life and priorities will change - as they should!!!
Just do it...

Hey, Travis, I'm late chiming in on this thread, but a hearty congrats to you guys! Good idea to spend a couple of years together before kids if it works out that way. Tammy and I had about 3 years before we had our first and it was great time together during which we got to do a lot of fun things together. As Randy said in his post, though, priorities change when those little blessings come along, but they change for the right reasons. I love the pics of your trip. My oldest brother and I flew our plane up to Machias, Maine (waaaaay up in the tip - the easternmost airport in the US) several years ago and spent the last hour down at about 500 feet cruising offshore by about a mile. It was incredible scenery and, once we were on the ground, the sight seeing we did was just as memorable. Your pics remind me of a lot of what we saw. We actually traveled up into Canada to Campabello Island and some of the pics I shot there remind me exactly of some that you posted! Campabello is on the Bay of Fundy and the tidal changes there are generally considered to be among the greatest in the world, approaching, I believe, 30 feet, so I'm not surprised you were seeing such huge changes where you guys were. As others have already said, thanks for taking us along on the trip and congrats again to you both! PS - here's one pic from my trip. The scenery ought to look pretty similar!

Todd: If you get the itch to see some sights this way, here's the closest airport: Plymouth Airport I'm positive that it'll cost more than me driving to WVa, but it won't take 'near as long! I can provide taxi service if needed.

Hey T Just back from MT and saw this thread late too. Congratulations! My wife and I honeymooned in New England also, and we both loved Maine. I never thought I'd meet someone with the same shellfish appetite and myself, but you may have me beaten! Being from NE we rarely get a chance at truly fresh seafood - your photos made my mouth water...you know, the photos of the oysters and such.

Thanks for the warm wishes all... We did have a great time and look forward to being DINKs for a while. Save some money so I can buy the land to build at least a dinker pond of my own on.

I'm still a dink after 20 years of marriage but believe it or not the wife nor I feel any sense of loss for not having kids. Wow I just love that country up there. And there is nothing like fresh seafood. We get the frozen kind here in the midwest and it's horrible compared to fresh! When the salmon fishery collapsed the fishing towns were so desperate in Nova Scotia they offered to sell my dad an entire town! I would have offered to be the mayor as long as I could have kept a gone fishin' sign on my office door. I would have gone inland looking for big brook trout!

May as well try to get Cecil to come along, also (any other hoosiers?).
