Is there somewhere on the forums with a list of hatcheries members have tried ? I looked for a post specific but was not able to find one.

Might be a neat subforum to have hatcheries listed by state or region for members looking for new stock and be able to offer some opinions on what strains/genetics have produced well from different hatcheries.

I agree with this idea. May also help us stay clear of the crooks as well.

I see a downside this idea vs. just asking for recommendations. A few suppliers are paying to advertise on the site, and it wouldn't be fair to them to list everyone including the ones that aren't paying.

Just a thought.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Point taken. But isn't that what we are doing when we say "XYZ" is in your area or carries this species of fish?

True but we aren't posting a list 24/7 which I think is what the poster wanted to do.

CB1 is right.

A few points.

Hatcheries come and go fast with a few surviving.

Many state Game and Fish agencies keep lists of hatcheries. Take a look at them as they are a few years old and half the hatcheries are out of business (no phone # or answer).

I personally don't want to sanction any hatchery I am not sure about. That is one of the biggest decisions a pond owner makes and needs to be right.

Hatcheries are often area and fish specific.

Having said that , there is no problem , if someone wants to start a list. It will be a lot of work and should be researched to avoid giving bad info. Also need appropriate waivers/warnings that PB is not giving this advice or suggestion. Might want to indicate and put at top those that support PB.

A further note - often direct contact with a hatchery is not your best path. Often pond service providers like Bob , Greg , Todd , Rex , Nate , Shawn etc are a better source of fish as hatcheries that know them give special or better deals or service than you or I can get. Often they get better fish and can get them when we can't.

I understand the advertising and other issues, makes sense.

What about a list of service providers and hatcheries that support the forums ? maybe give them all a boost in sales ?

It may even increase a desire for others to advertise/market their services.

Just a thought, I know with due diligence someone could find what they are looking for if they read enough posts and ask the right questions.

AF-

Working on exactly what you describe as you're reading this - have been for the last 9 months. It's a service pond owners and vendors desperately need, and I'm doing my best to help connect them all. Stay tuned, and GREAT IDEA! wink

ewest, I think that is exactly what this forum is about: Getting the best information about the best people out there for the PondMeisters. I agree that a blanket "list" isn't in the best interest of the forum, nor does it do the fish suppliers that support the forum any good. A list of suppliers that people have had positive results with would.

A list of fish suppliers/hatcheries that are good would help direct forum members to them. I direct my purchasing dollars to the businesses that support the forum whenever possible. The list should have some way to show what suppliers support the forum.

These are the consultants/hatcheries that support PB by advertising. AF were you aware this was here? http://www.pondboss.com/resourceguide_fisheries_consulting_services.html

Had no idea it was there. My mouse moves pretty quick so I may have blown past it without noticing.

Thanks for the link. We have a hatchery 4 miles from us tha tprovides ost of my needs. Although our perch seem to be growing I would like to find someone in MI or an option for MI with proven jumbo perch lines.

That is disappointing. It is not mentioned often on this board. I was thinking you had not noticed it. It is a good resource but not used by many Im afraid.

Greg,

many times links on the side of a webpage can be read, looked at 100 times before someone actually notices what it says and especially that it might be something your interest in finding.

I may very well be the exception and looked over it several times. If you find this is more the norm rather than the exception and would like to increase visibility for the supporters listed in the link possibly consider adding a sticky to catagory subforums like every sublist under stocking a new pond , or manageing an existing pond, or maybe even under the fish catagories. Sometimes a simple sticky at the top catches readers eyes and it's always right there where you know where to find it. similar to the sticky for " welcome to pond boss " , everytime I click new members I see the welcome sign .

Again, it's possible I am the exception and the link on the PB main page is enough but if not stickies might be an easy way to increase visibility for supporters ?

I need to find some in Oklahoma, or at least someone that will service us here.

Any ideas?
