Can anyone tell me if you can have a CNBG x HBG spawn?
I thought I was told they would not mix but wondering if it is true, or if anyone may have some pictures of one of these hybrids?
Thanks

Having seen the promiscuity of GSF established over this past weekend here on the forum, and knowing that GSF are often one half of the mix in HBG, I'd say anything's possible!

You say promiscuity, we say improving fish genetics.

You really won't know whether your gene pool has been blessed for about a month after spawning. It is tough to identify really small fish.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I just figured that if the CNBG produce at 80% female and the HBG produce at 90% male that the two could possible create a hybrid themselves.
Plus do each BG and other sunfish have to be a certain age or length to spawn?

I've never heard that CNBG are anything other than 50/50.
Sunfish such as BG can usually spawn at 3 to 4 inches length.

Dave is right. CNBG about 50-50 just like regular BG.

So do we think CNBG and HBG can cross, I am curious as I have both in one of my ponds and just curious what I should look for in a new generation to see if it possible.
Plus will I see a difference in the second or ever third generation of HBG, assuming they survive?

Well if that happens I guess I can try to figure out what they look like unless you happen to have a picture.
I know my HBG are crossed GSF x BG, but not sure what GSF x CNBG look like either.
All of my HBG look the same (which resemble the GSF a lot) and I catch a ton of them, no signs of RES or CNBG so not sure if the HBG ate them or not.
I stocked them in December 1"-3". I now catch them from 2"-6" do you think these are my initial stocking or maybe they have spawned once already?

Does anyone happen to have a picture of a CNBG x HBG?

It is not positive that CNBG can cross with HBG.

Is it positive that BG can cross with HBG?
What about BG x CNBG, would one know what this looks like if they had them?
I guess in a year or so we can see if my CNBG and HBG spawn and if I get some fish that look different I can post them to see if anyone may think they could possibly be a cross between the two.
Thanks

CNBG can breed with BG - not a cross as its the same species.
It is not positive that HBG can backcross with eithr parental species (BG or GSF).
