I have a small .2 acre groundwater pond that was finished this summer. It sits next to a barn on my hunting property that has a flowing (artesian) 1/4" well that I drove last year. The well only produces about 2 gallons per minute and currently just runs into the sandy ground around the well. I was thinking of running pvc pipe from the well to the pond to provide a little fresh, cool water. At this small a gpm will the additional well water offer any benefits to the pond?

Short answer yes the pond will benefit from it.

Short answer, yes. In the hot summer, it will probably keep pace with evaporation. If your pond is set-up with some sort of overflow device, and the well water out paces the evaporation and seepage, it will flush nutrients from the pond. That could be good or bad, depending on your particular pond.
I just turned the well back on to put water into the pond. It's been losing about 1" per day for the past week.

I would think that well water is low in DO. Would it not be better to have the flow tumble over rocks or something before it enters the pond so that it can pick up some oxygen?
I have an artesian well flowing into our pond and the flow is out a 1 1/4" pipe with a steady flow. We have it shoot through the air and then collect before it overflows a pit and enters the pond. When I run the well pump to transfer this water to a fountain at the front of the property, it is moving thousands of gallons of water a day. It shoots the water 5 feet into the air through multiple nozzles then overflows the fountain basin and flows down a rock stream before it enters the pond at the opposite end.
The only thing I don't like is the cost of running my 3 H.P. well pump 24/7 during the time we need to make up water levels.

Supposedly, like you say, Rattle, well water is devoid of oxygen. Splashing against rocks or something cures that and might also shake out certain types of minerals that might be in the water, although someone should confirm that.

If the minerals are soluble in the water (as they will be unless you have grit or other particulates), then only changing the chemistry of the water (pH,temperature, hardness, etc.) will cause them to fall out of solution.

Thanks folks. Before I go through the work of piping the well water to the pond, I'm going to try driving more pipe into the ground to see if I can increase the gpm. I hit the flowing water at about 35 feet and stopped at 40 feet.
JHAP, all is well this time of the year. No auditing in my practice (thank goodness).
