Most bluegill populations are comprised of a variety of different sized members so that at any given time there would be 6” bluegill that could go over the spillway. Of the bluegill that go over the spillway some would most likely be programmed genetically to reach 9”. How would stunted be better off?

Assume one percent survival to reproduction after escape from original pond. Populations with large numbers of smaller adults multiplied by factor of .01 have a better chance of new colonization than those with small populations of six inch mature adults.
Just kickin' around ideas.

Ric,
I noticed in your profile that you like to fish, hunt, and shoot computers. Would you like to elaborate on that?

That is Don Smith in Afghanistan. I am 10 hours ahead of Los Angeles and that’s tomorrow. It's 8am Sunday here and 10pm Saturday in LA. I was thinking of all the little fishes that swam and swam right over the dam. They would have a wide range of ages. Then there was the stunted thing, what caused the stunting. Then there was the what was in the new water for predators and what about the predators that washed over the dam with the bluegill. Then there was the part about being to big to be eaten. Also, what about the history of bluegill, somewhere along the line there is a likelihood that what was described in the original scenario has already happened, yet all of the bluegill posters here are telling us how big theirs are. I think that there are to many assumptions to say that a stunted population had/has a better chance of survival. But then, it has been raining here for the last 3 days and I have little else to do but think about survival.

Maybe you should stop all that thinking and go to sleep....or eat breakfast....or whatever it is that you do at this time of the day.
