I'm happy to say that the new pond is full & about ready to stock with fat head minnows. I had planned to get more structure put in before it filled, but unfortunately, that just didn't work out as planned, so I'll have to work on that with a full pond this spring.

Here's a link to the construction of the pond

The day these pics were taken, it lacked one foot of being full. We've had a heavy rain since then, so I'm sure it's completely full now, even though I haven't been back there since. Big watershed with 2 feeder ditches.

Looks awesome. I love how the trees are right next to the water. It makes it look more natural and like it's been there forever. Will you be building a trail through them? For us, the thing we seem to do the most is walk around ours. Just see it from every angle, look at what's swimming along the shoreline and just explore what's going on.

Thanks eddie. The one stipulation I had when choosing the contractor was that no ground was to be disturbed that was not absolutely necessary to build the dam. The primary purpose for this pond is for wildlife. That's why it was built 100 yds inside the timber, so deer, turkey etc would feel safe using it. We'll stock it & fish it on occasion, but that's only a bonus. I've got a walk behind brush cutter that I'll cut a trail along the bank with, as much for the wildlife as for people to use.

The dam is already covered with tracks of deer & turkey. They're really liking the winter wheat & clover that's already greening up.

Beautiful Pin! One end of our pond is heavily wooded the other end is mostly clear. We made paths through the woods to walk around the pond. I really like it that way. In fact when you approach our pond on what we call the "pond road" (because it leads to the pond as you can tell from that and my screen name I like to keep things simple) you don't even see the pond until you are right at it. It's almost like a surprise each time you round the corner and see the pond.

I really like the looks of your pond Pin, I'll bet it feels like your own private oasis.

Great looking pond, I like how the back end of the pond floods a small area of timber. That's gonna be some great fish and wildlife habitat... All you need is a wood duck box or two and some aquatic vegetation and that pond will be screaming out to wildlife to stop over and hang out for a while...

Very nice, Mr Wheel. You're gonna be partying with nature's best animal cross section in no time. How is the birding? Any woodies? This is when you don't mind losing a couple/three trees to ground saturation.
