Pond Boss Forums POND CONSTRUCTION Building a dam Apple trees on dam

I bought a property this past fall and planted five semi dwarf apple trees on the dam (small). I now am questioning if I should remove them? The pond is 2 acres and the dam is big. I planted the trees in the center of the dam which is all soil and about 25 foot vertically and 50 feet horizontally. Any thoughts?

Most people don't like trees on dams because the root system can affect the integrity of the damn.

I don't know if dwarf trees (I believe the preferred term is "little trees" ) make any difference in this advice or not.

I cant guarantee that my advice is 100% but i can tell you that you will sleep better knowing they are gone. Right now you can get them out with a shovel that im sure you already paid for. If you wait till they are the potential source of a problem then you will be paying a backhoe/trackloader to perform the same thing at $90.00 per hour. At least thats the going rate in my area last i heard. Your choice.

Three for three on this one. Definitely remove the trees for the reasons already stated. At this point you can still transplant them and they should survive. Dams should be covered with a sod forming grass. Face the front edge with rock at water level to prevent erosion.
