OK, I put out the minnow trap today (a better one with smaller holes) and baited it with gefilte fish (http://www.jewishrecipes.org/jewish-foods/gefilte-fish.html) that I had around the house since I bought the wrong brand.

So, here's what I discovered: BG are Jewish! But, apparently not LMB or shiners.
Note: My wife is Jewish so, I have a license to make Jewish jokes. wink

All I caught were about 10 baby BG and one that was about 4".

Since the BG seem to die if I leave them in the trap too long, I had to take the trap back out - I released both the BG and the gefilte fish. wink

No identification yet...I'll try again, later.

Maybe this time I'll use matzoh since I have some around that is old and stale.

If you're too scared to throw that bait where the fish are, why did you tie it on?

Yeah that doesn't look like my fish? I believe they must be FH's.

I've got a couple questions.....Do you have any top view pictures of the frye?

Do FHM school up like bait balls?

OK, I lied... One more question........Did anyone catch any male LMB recently in that area?

Hey loose,

My fish in question if they were FHM's which I believe they are, were in one BIG school! It was about 3 foot round and 2 inches thick. One big black round ball.

I'd bet FHM

Even baby LMB have a 2 part dorsal fin that positively IDs the fish -
I don't see that in the original pic.

The LMB fry that I have seen were never in that big of a "bait-ball". And if they were FHM's, I didn't know the fry balled up. From what I've heard, the only fish to ball-up this early in the year were LMB fry. I know perch have already spawned but they don't ball up.

Just wondering if any male LMB were caught in that area recently?
