Ok those are some nice fish. So I have to know how large is your pond and do you feed the fish. If they are fed how much and how often?
How many fish have been stocked in the pond and what all types are there as well.
Thanks 3/4 acre 300 each coppernose and straight BG in Apr. '08 75 F1 lmb in Aug '08 75 hsb in Sept '08 probably about 30-40 of each left after early mortality, catching, breaking off. Feed variable # of times 2 to 4 depending on temp. 42 or 46% Cargill/Burris feed. Purina Aquamax is similar. Just got a Texas Hunter feeder this year. Now much more consistent feeding. Absentee and lost a lot of growth potential due to inferior feeders. Do yourself a favor and spend the money up front as you will end up ponying up at some point anyway.

Haha, great pics Burger! Tell me, did the little one in the last pics just lose it because it was squirming around or did she toss it up in the air? Cute kids man. Sorry I missed your question, Omaha. She was holding it; it was flopping; she kept saying 'pishie', then it flopped out of her hand.

Those are very nice fish Burger and the kids catching them makes it even better. Isn't it fun to watch them have fun? I see you have the same 9+ inch weighting tray that I have with my Wally World digital scale. Works good.
Gotta get back to fishin!

Went electrofishing on the White River east of Little Rock this past week and got a few interesting fish. In a few weeks we will be sampling a tailwater so I should get some good trout pictures. 18" sauger About a 6 or 7 pound Bowfin. This is a longnose gar that was jet black.

Genetics I guess. All the other fish we caught had normal coloration.

Wow, never seen a Bowfin before. Aren't they ancient, evolutionary wise? They are able to breathe air during drought conditions with some kind of primitive lung?

Yeah, TJ, they can. Their swim bladder is lines with capilaries that can extract 02 from the air it gulps down there.
Gar and Bowfin are among the only freshwater fish left that swam with dinosaurs. Im sure there are others, but a quick peruze of Wikipedia didn't let me know any more.
The Lungfish, though, is the one you really wanna cite in a darwin argument. he brings even more to the table than the flying spaghetti monster. While both are miracles of evolution, the lungfish isn't quite so silly.

Trying to help with 7.5 Acres in the Chain of Lakes Illinois - - The fish would stay out of trouble if it could just keep its fool mouth shut. Turns out there is a lot I should be learning from the fish.

"Somebody's going to be having nightmares tonight!!!"
...and a smelly foot (if they're wearing socks).
YB, have you asked that young lady out, who's piloting the boat in the second picture?

Nice work FH! Love to see the flyrod in action. How much growth have you seen since 2008? He's a beauty - looks so clean somehow...if that makes sense?

I'd seen great growth until recently - some of the original stocking are looking thin ( I don't feed) - looks like its time to thin them out. the largest being 8" or so. I've been thrilled to see 2-3" BG, YP and even SMB this summer. Its all going on - need to make sure I keep the BG in check from here on out.
This is the 1st year our pond doesn't feel like a "new pond"

Electrofished the Upper White River this past week. Started about 80 miles downstream of the Bull Shoals Dam and ended up about 5 miles downstream of the dam.It was interesting to see trout and bass caught in the same 100 yard stretch. Arkansas Lobster Chestnut Lamprey. They were attached to several of the trout that we shocked up. 26" Striper 18.5" Smallmouth that we caught a mile downstream of where the Buffalo River flows into the White River. Walleye and Yellow Perch we caught about 5 miles downstream of the Bull Shoals Dam. A 24" Brown which was the biggest trout that we caught.

Chris, I have fished in those exact spots many a times! Pretty cool!! Do you guys wait to shock for any specific water flow? for those who don't know, the water level can go up and down what seems like more than 10 feet daily depending on how much water they release from the dam.

No, we sample whatever is at the site. We start at a certain point and make 6 10 minute runs and alternate sides every ten minutes while working our way downstreram.
That big Brown was caught in a fast, deep rapid. We caught a bunch of browns in that spot. I have no idea how you would fish it because the water was flowing so fast.

During no flow or low water I still fish the holes with nightcrawlers or powerbait.
When they first start running water or during medium flow I will cast artificial trout worms, mepps spinners, and flutter spoons.
During heavy flow I will cast heavy spoons or drift cut shad for big browns.
During super heavy flow I will drift with the current with a big egg sinker and nightcrawler bouncing on the bottom right behind the boat. I actually catch the most fish during the heaviest flows of water, that really turns them on big time!
