Alright, folks, the traveling lures schedule is here! The time slots are in 10 day increments to ensure that each participant has at least one full weekend to get out and enjoy the lures and catch a fish.

The lure holder is responsible for shipping in time for the next recipient to get the lures on his/her starting date. It is understood that shipping delays may occur, but the goal is to do our best to ensure timely delivery. JHAP has priced 2 day delivery through the post office and it looks like it should run about $5.

Please extend normal Pond Boss courtesy to the next person in line and either make sure they have the lures, or get in touch with them to advise of any potential delays. Everyone here understands the forum's standards and I will go out on a limb and say that those same standards apply here as well, so let's all do our part to help one another maximize the fun of this event!

In order to get on the schedule, please email me PRIVATELY and OFF-LIST at tlaneve@8777wvlaws.com.
I will be adding all names to this master schedule below.

If you have scheduling questions, please use the same email and I'll be happy to answer them.

Let the travel begin! laugh

Since I'll be the first one, where should I post my 10-12 page report?

I believe JHAP is going to start a thread for photos and 10-12 page reports once we get this rolling. It'll probably be in this topic, though I'm sure he'll let us know where it's going to be. Just make sure you catch a good first fish so you set the tone for the rest of us!

Todd:

Is it O.K. to piggyback two different pondmeisters in the same time slot as long as the 10 day time frame for the first pondmeister is adhered to? The same pondmeister that was sent the lures will be responsible to get them in the mail. There's another pondmeister that's very local to me, so no shipping will be required. (well, more than one, but only one has expressed a desire to piggyback so far)

Yeah, I think that would be fine, Scott. Get me his screen name and I'll add him to the schedule with you if that's what you want to do. If you would prefer your own week, we can just add him in somewhere else and not worry about the shipping.

It'll probably be a trout. They have gotten so bold & spoiled
with my 3-4 feedings a day that I could probably catch them by hand if they weren't so slimy.

That'll work then. His screen name is FCM67693. <20 miles away, probably closer to 15. I'm really doing something wrong if it takes me more than 1/2 hr. It helps when you live on the same property that the pond is on.

Thanks.

Any guesses as to how many different species of fish that'll be caught; the biggest and the smallest fish as well?

Jhap has the smallest, and ugliest, fish award already spoken for. Can someone run down the guidelines for me? Fish with tackle, take pics, then mail it on? Am I on the right track? Or do I send a new bait to someone? Sorry for all the questions...

I am guessing 10 species 4lbs biggest and 6 oz or 5in the smallest. I have never cought a fish in my lake yet. Wouldn't it be cool if the first fish cought was on the travelling lure!!!!

Sent you a direct email in response to yours and got into the last time slot in June, TJ - it bleeds over into July, but it was the only June space remaining. Thanks for contacting me about it and glad to have you on board!

JHAP will need to clarify if I miss anything here, but the general rundown of how this event will work is as follows:

* Use any/all of the lures you want, as much as you want, during your time slot
* ONLY THE FIRST FISH COUNTS regardless of what lure you used in terms of taking a picture and writing a story on it.
* Participants may catch as many fish as they want using any lure they want to use during their time slot
* You may include info on your other fish and may also submit pics of them (JHAP will need to verify that this is not inconsistent with what he intended - if it is, sorry for the confusion!), but ONLY THE FIRST FISH COUNTS!!!
* Once your time slot is ending, you must get the box of lures mailed to the next person in time for them to receive the box by their starting dates, so that means you will likely have 7 - 8 days to actually fish the lures before you'll need to mail them

I will start a thread for the photos and stories and post it in this same section. Use that thread for posts about fishing the lures, not this one as we'll reserve this one for general questions about scheduling and operation of the event.

At the end, whenever that turns out to be, I believe the box of lures will be auctioned off at either the next PB convention or here on the forum. All the proceeds will go to the Jesse West Foundation.

Sound good to everyone? Any other questions?

Blair, I have it on good word that JHAP himself guarantees these lures will produce personal record fish for all who participate! If this does not happen, he has agreed to provide 1040 seconds of free tax consulting services per person claiming a breach of the guarantee (he does request that your questions be EZ). But wait, there's more! If you sign up today, he'll also include an actively mating pair of green sunfish for installation in your very own pond, and a free lifetime membership in the Green Sunfish Association.

So, if the offer is just too enticing to pass up, email me with your date preferences and I'll get you on the schedule!

Just don't send any herpes along with the lures.

Some may say that's preferable to a green sunfish!

Great job Todd and I want to publicly thank you for stepping up and taking on this project.

Randy, I'm going to place the lures in the mail to you today - Priority Mail with tracking. You should have them probably Monday.

As Todd said a separate thread will be started that will house the stories and photos. This thread will be used for the scheduling.

Remember folks - bring your camera fishing and TAKE PHOTOS. The photos and stories will be what drives the end result.

ALSO REMEMBER: Your ten day slot includes the shipping to the next recipient. So you really only have 8 days with the lures. Back two days off of you end date and that is when you need to ship the lures. If the lures are in your possession then it is your responsibility to ensure that you have the next recipient's address and that you ship them out on time.

The rules are as Todd stated above so I won't re-iterate them.

Sign up folks, we have a lot of blank spots. This should be a very fun event.

Tj - I would chastise you for implying that I would catch the smallest ugliest fish but it could be true. After all I do have bluegill in the pond.

Ok folks the lures are in wind. I shipped them using a "Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Shipping Box." It cost under $5.00 to ship anywhere in the continental US and will arrive at the destination in 2 to 3 days. Perhaps the same box can be used over and over for shipping - I don't know what the regulations are.

So Randy keep an eye out on Monday and Tuesday. Practice tying your best knots, put new line on the spool, lube the reel, begin your casting exercises. And remember - document the FIRST fish caught and have fun!

Let us know when you receive it Randy. I'm curious how long it will take given that I mailed it on Friday.

Lots more slots people. Sign up.

I have shipped hundreds of items with Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes. Shipping in the continental US has never been more than 2 business days. I had one package go to the Marshall Islands and that was 3 days. Canada is about 2 weeks, Thailand is about 2 weeks plus a couple more weeks in customs. I always use delivery confirmation. It is an extra .70 cents, but you can follow the package and it will tell you the exact local time it was delivered.

Small Flat Rate boxes are free, as are labels from the USPS. You can order a variety pack of flat rate boxes from USPS.com they are free as I said, but you will want to do that about 3 weeks in advance to be on the safe side. You can bring any unused boxes to your local post office, and they will thank you as post offices are not allowed to order these, "so they might not have any". When I order boxes, I always get extra for my local post office, they like me \:\)

You can reuse the box if in a pinch but all previous postage and labeling has to be removed, and the self adhesive only works once. It can get pretty ugly. The new boxes use a lighter weight cardboard, so they probably wont be very durable for many more than one or two uses.

Also, make sure you pack it pretty good if it fits sloppy. Paper towel and shredded newspaper work pretty good.

These boxes can come apart if you don't do it right.

I use three pieces of 2" wide packaging tape. One on each side over the tabs before packing, and the last one over the address label extending over the self adhesive tab after it has been packed. This protects the to and from addresses and adds extra insurance to keep the box closed. Humidity and moisture are this boxes worst enemy.

Hope that wasn't too boring.

BTW: Every package I ever sent was received in good shape.

But wont Randy keep getting the box?

Jeff, it's 1:30 pm Sat and it's not here yet. I just know it's lost. What are we going to do? I can't believe this has happened.
Everybody's going to hate me. I don't have any friends anyway.
Oh the humanity! I'll go check the mail again. Nope, not here.
Maybe the mailman put it in the wrong box. I'm off to check every mailbox in town....

Seriously, the box really wont hold up very well. They need to be cut open, and they were designed to only be used once. Hey, there free anyway, so why not give the Traveling Lures First Class Treatment in a new box, as they deserve!

USPS also ships free boxes to you for free. But don't expect your local post office to have any.

Here is a link:

https://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...&WT.ac=10001641

This is a pic of the older style box, which was a bit more sturdy.

The new ones are a bit thinner and have wider corrugations that you can actually see through the outer layer.

Holy Crikey! You lost the box ALREADY!?!?

Good info JKB, of course it would have been more helpful if I read this BEFORE I shipped the box. \:D

The plastic lure shipping box fits neatly into the Priority Mail Small Flat Rate box.

I highly recommend that anyone that is going to be receiving the lures go to the post office and get one in advance just to ensure that shipping does not get held up. Remember it is your responsibility to ship the box to the next recipient on time.

Failure to do so will result in a visit from this gentleman...

... and you don't want that.

At least I have one good post

A couple tips:

Go early to the post office for a box, like three weeks, as it is against USPS policy to even order these for a local post office. The free stuff they give away at the local PO is brought in by customers who have extra. I know my local Postmaster pretty good, and by Federal Law, they can only order inventory that they sell, not the free stuff. Otherwise order one online in a couple of clicks and let them do the work.

Three different boxes of the same size exist, although one is current. The Red bordered one without the pull tabs is the new one, and is flat rate. The other is as in the previous pic, and that is flat rate. The other one is only Priority Mail, and that will get pricey over 16 ounces. Make sure is says "Flat Rate" on it, and do not cover this up. Three other types of boxes about the same size exist. One is a bit larger, the other two are a bit smaller. Do not use these!

The other thing "I Always Do" is wrap up the contents before putting in the box and have a packing list with all the info on contents and From: and To: on the inside, just in case.

Signature Confirmation is a plus. So is Insurance.

My personal opinion is, that by the end of the trail, this group of lures will have a rich history. And, quite frankly, will be Collectors Items!

Geeze, I'm already nervous. Especially after reading Randy's post. \:o

But, I'm ready. I figure I'll swap out my 4# test line for some saltwater 40# test line on my ultralight setup so I don't lose any lures. And, if I do, I figure I know a good WV lawyer who can represent me -- unless he is the one prosecuting me for losing the lures he sent to me!

Now I'm even more nervous.

Lastly, if Randy really did lose the lures -- and for any of you who confuse me with Randy, and vice versa, -- I'm the more handsome one of the two of us!

Ken

P.S. Randy -- no pressure -- but, I sure hope you find those lures soon. And, I sure hope you catch a really big monster lunker that the rest of us will have to live up to. (No matter what, just remember to use the Condello Technique for the photos.)

One more tip:

When you ship, try do it early in the morning.

If I get a package in before 11:00 am it is usually on an aircraft in about 10 hours or so. After that, another 4.5 hours passes and could push it to 3 days. If I shipped early Friday, Randy may have seen it Saturday. I recently shipped a device to a cop in WV (not CJ) and he got it the next day.

The key is, to ship early in the morning, if you can.

OK, I am done.

Randy, stop messing around and go check your mail box.

According to Priority Mail Tracking the package was out for delivery today at 10:55AM your time.

Go stand by your mail box and wait for it's arrival. \:D

Better start to fret Jeff. Are you sure you got the address and zip code correct?

Working with numbers as you do, I would imagine they all look the same.

It's here!!! I got home too late to fish this evening, but will go out tomorrow and give it my best.
Jeff the package came in undamaged, and both lures are in great shape. Just kidding, there were 3, no make that 5, and some sissy swivel thingie. I'll have the box in the mail to Eric in a couple of days - I want to try all lures.
Ken, I'm with you - I'll be using my heavy-duty, fencepost-thick rod with telephone wire line.

Great Randy, I'm glad you have the box of lures.

And people lets not totally freak out if someone looses a lure. Three of the five are fairly easy to get. The two that aren't are the lure from Andy in Norway (that is the chrome spoon lure) and the Road Runner customized by George. But I suspect if worst comes to worst we can somehow replace those.

I'm only saying all of this because odds are I'll be the one to lose a lure.

Wow! From a licensed upholder of the U.S. tax codes! This would have to be categorized as unethical, immoral, and probably akin to counterfeiting!

I'm aghast that you would even suggest something so heinous.

(I sure hope I don't lose one and have to replace it!)

Ken, Ken, Ken. Fishing and tax preparation have nothing in common.

In activity one you lie about the size of your results,
and you exaggerate the effort it took to achieve those results.

The other is just fishing. \:D \:D \:D

I'm only saying lets not freak out if a lure gets lost. It's bound to happen and I don't want someone's experience ruined because they (once again probably me) lost a lure. I want everyone to have fun with this and not worry about lost lures.

Anyhoo, back to 1040s.

Dave, you're right. I'll be using it because I plan to use/lose
every lure. Just kidding about the lose. I am a little concerned
so I'll use heavier equipment and just fish around the dock. I'll
be goin' after them this eve...

The Traveling Lures are off to TJ.

I did have quite a panic on Monday when I went to mail them. They weren't in my truck -- where I knew with absolute certainty they were supposed to be. Apparently in my haste to head to Ye Olde Folks Home on Sunday night, my Oldtimerz Disease played tricks with my mind. Anyway, I got home today. They were on my desk. They are now in the mail.

Twas a great run in West Virginia.

Todd3138, I know it's not time yet but do I need to get with Jsand13 about my address to ship the lures to or do you send it to him? I'm ready to give them a try on my little infant BG and see what happens.

Thanks,

Hey, Jes, TJ's schedule caused him a little delay in getting the lures to you, but they should be on their way ASAP. He'll be in touch with you directly.

My bad, just PMed Jes for his address. Sorry guys, I only had 30 minutes the last week to fish, let alone check the forum, and even less to get my head straight. I apologize, I will next day air these to make sure I don't cheat anyone. Sorry to be the weak leak...Sigh!

No sweat, TJ. I think everyone understands that doing all the work you're doing on the forum eats into your available time to also run your businesses and be a dad/husband, let alone fish. We all have our empty head moments! JSand13, hang tight and the lures will be there in no time flat. Thanks to everyone for working around the little delay and being understanding.

Next day aired these to Jes today. I don't recommend it - $36! But, that's the price you have to pay for screwing up.

I will post my results soon - it's a sad state of affairs when one can't get time to drive 10 minutes to their pond. Maybe near the year's end I can get another round and improve my efforts. Thanks for your patience, all.

Hey TJ -- you are way too hard on yourself. Had the lures arrived at my place two weeks earlier, or a week later, I would have been in the same situation you just faced. I just finished a really good nervous breakdown, and it had nothing to do with the Traveling Lures.

I'm sending a carton of Zolox to help your fishing efforts. Use them like you'd use a Stubby Steve.

And, please, don't be afraid to ask for assistance, references, guidance, counseling, etc. As you well know, we've got a very diverse group of extremely talented, educated, motivated, and selfless people -- many of whom would feel privileged to assist. Send a PM to a few of the members you know best, and I'm sure that more than one can provide significant help.

Tj I told you I wasn't in any hurry to get them. You should have just sent them regular mail. That next day air price is crazy high. That was more than all the lures cost.

Gang, I just finished updating the calendar for the traveling lures. If you want to participate, first please read the original post at the start of this thread and then contact me according to the instructions. Remember, if you want to participate, you'll need to contact me via my email address which is in the first post in this thread, and I'll need your real name and a good mailing address so I can help facilitate the smooth and orderly progression (that's a nod to the CPAs amongst us, who like things to be orderly) of the lures from one locale to the next.

Let's get some time slots filled!

Cisco is next up with the lures on May 2, so whoever has them as of now, please contact him to arrange shipment so he has them by his start date. If the current lure box possesser (my word, I claim it so you can't challenge me on its' validity!) needs address info, contact me directly and I'll make sure you have it.

I believe that Chris Steelman has the lures so Cisco should contact Chris.

I'll PM Cisco with my address so the lures can be shipped to me after Cisco's time with them (I'll hand carry them to DIED).
