Service in WWII changed my life. I volunteered as an 17 year old kid, inducted at 18, and came out a man. George, that is exactly what my father did. He was originally was trained as an aerial gunner (I believe for a B25 but don't know for certain), but due to an excess of gunners over airplanes the Navy ended up retraining him to be a radio operator on board a ship. His ship was en route to Japan when the bombs were dropped. He became part of the occupational forces of Japan. I currently have one nephew in IRAQ and another nephew in basic training.

Wow, John, thanks so much.

Cecil your dad must be a tough bird being a Green Beret.
Not as tough a bird as my mom.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

One of my taxidermy students that was in the Marine Reserves came back from Iraq in a wheelchair. At least he's still able to work as a taxidermist but his regular job working at the county jail is out of the question now.

Thank you, John. A debt we can never repay. A heart full of gratitude & admiration to all who have, are, & will serve in the military.
John, you are one of the reasons that at age 31, I enlisted & went to boot camp & then turned 41 in a remote desert location serving in a Special Operations Joint Taskforce as a US Army reservist.
Sunil, I have the upmost admiration for your brother. I was surrounded by the elite of all branches (although I’m pretty partial to the elite of the Army) during my time over there. I cannot even begin to lace their boots but am deeply proud & grateful of them & to have served with them.
Thank you from the bottom of my grateful heart, Mrs. Mongo

Its been a while since this thread has been around. Looks like a great time to say to all vets, thank you all for your sacrifices. No matter weither you were a part time (ng) or active duty our country owes you a debt of graditude for your service. Every day I come to work i see younger and younger vets coming into VA hospitals, it seams like it was only a short time ago but i guess i'm getting old. I know its not veterans day today but being one and working every day for them means that i think of them always. From one recon scout (19D) to all of our PB vets thanks for answering the call...our country really is worth the cost. Freedom is never free.

Thank you for that sentiment rcn11thacr, and I echo it.
Never been to a VA hospital, so far I've always had private insurance. But thank you for what you do on behalf of the other Vets.

Bobad you are most welcome and thank you for your service. You say you have never needed the va thats fine but you need to at least sign up. Every vet needs to even if you dont currently plan to use it. If you are already in the system and congress changes a law you are not affected and are grandfathered in under the previous laws and are not subject to the new one. It takes a half an hour to sign up and may save you huge money years later when you no longer have access to your current income level. Best wishes.
