Dave,

Do you happen to eat GSF or just always catch and release?

Five or six beers?

Not all of us have Pale Ale coursing through our veins Sunil.

Would it make you feel any better if I made Dave promise not to Cozy my beer?

Ok Dave, don't cozy in Jeffs beer while he's watching.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Actually, I'm surprised at the coloration. The ones I've seen come out of the Sacramento River have always been very pale and small (4-5 inches, maximum). How big is that thing? Do they get that kind of coloration when they get big?

P.S. I just turned down a trip to Tule land. My new boss wanted me to come out for "off-site" meetings over the weekend before Thanksgiving!

good descriptions ken.

i thought it was huge too, a trophy for the species if it is a tule perch.....and VERY RARE......thought to be brought to the verge of extinction in the delta by the introduction of all the eastern species 100+ yrs ago (bg, gsf, res, warmouth, smb, lmb, etc. etc...)

i'm guessing between 5 and 6-inches long, hard to tell from that pic, but another pic showed his hand near fish, i'll see if i can get that up here.

here i found it....

he said the fish was floating, near death, and had been attacked up around dorsal fin which you can clearly see in this pic, he plucked it from water just to see what kind of fish it was.

Geez, how obvious can you make it? That's clearly one of those fancy and rare Zebra Crappies that you hear about all the time. grin

Interesting, I'd never heard of a Tule Perch until you mentioned it. I was going to guess Sacramento Perch but the fish above doesn't quite look like a Sacramento Perch (the pronounced bump between the head and the dorsal fin).

i recently learned the largest tule perch on record is 8.7-inches. the fish above turns out is 7.25-inches. the books say a max of 6-inches, and the average sizes are between 4 and 6-inches....so its a pretty nice one, what i would call trophy for the species.
