We are here and intact, however, we are snowed in. Our power flickered many times, but we never lost power.

Minimum two feet of snow. Drifts all over and much deeper than 2'.

I got my mule high centered three times in the distance of 25'. No chance of getting down the drive way by manually shoveling.

Our hired plowing service was just too overwhelmed today. They were in our neighborhood doing the streets, and then they left w/out attempting our driveway. So sad....

You definitely have to watch out for that sort of activity - you may pull something if you haven't properly prepped yourself for such a strenuous endeavor!

Awesome pics, Ken! Glad you guys are okay. Yeah, my buddy in Martinsburg sent me some pics from his house - drifts easily 6+ feet around some areas of his place. His 4 foot mailbox is just managing to stay above the snow. He did say that they had serious winds all last night and a lot of today, so sounds like you at least lucked out a little in that regard. We ended up with about a foot. Spent the afternoon with my oldest daughter sled riding in our yard and then packed the whole family into the truck and drove all over just checking out the sights. Our main roads are pretty clear, but there's been almost nothing done in any of the areas off the main roads. Sounds like you're going to be working for awhile before you guys clear out of there! At least you have power and everything else intact. Our power flickered for awhile this morning but never went out, though a lot around here did apparently lose power. Good luck keeping warm tonight - we're getting down to around 8 or 9 degrees and I bet you guys will be even a bit colder!

Glad you hear you're all good - Sunil. It's a perfect time to hunker down, dust off some Hendrix vinyl, put on your cans and enjoy watching it fall....

My cousin in NC has been running on generator power all day long. He said that a LOT of treetops are missing, and many trees are badly damaged. He said they have 2" of ice. They're housebound as well, their driveway climbs 65' in elevation. They've taken to parking one of their cars at the bottom of the driveway so they could at least drive when the roads clear. Walking down to it will be a different story!

And to think he moved from Cleveland to get away from winter. This is his first winter there, and he's already sold the Bimmer and bought a Subaru Outback. I told him that he should have bought a 4x4 P.U. instead.

I'd take 2 feet of snow over 2" of ice anytime.

I think the weatherman said that we had 45" of snow for the whole winter. That's 25% less than normal. I may regret saying this, but I'm hoping that this doesn't mean that we'll have a drier than normal year.

Sunil and Ken -- you are putting us to shame. We're only tolerating our fifth day in a row of 20s, 1-2 inches of snow per day, and no wind. Wind is supposed to hit tonight, and that will "re-arrange" our snow. \:\) Roads are no fun, and it's turning into a long winter despite the late start this year.

I'm hoping to be dug out before tonight. My problem now is that I've run out of places to easily pile it. I left a message for a friend to see if he can come over with one of his big dump trucks or big loaders to widen the driveway. But, I'm sure he's been plowing nearly continuously since Friday. Time for some lunch and time to get the welder out again.

That's one of the reasons why I like the snowthrower - it gets the snow further away from the areas that need cleaning. Plus I can set it an inch or so above the surface and it won't pick up the limestone in the driveway and distribute it in the yard, which has a good chance then of getting re-distributed in the spring by the lawnmower.

Especially if they are not use to it. We just plan accordingly!

Yesterday I spotted a couple of 1" drifts in tire tracks, today they are gone. If you did an aerial shoot, you could see most septic drain fields.

It will soon be over, and I imagine, many stories to be told.

Just keep it safe!

Are you talking about a poultry/lemming Combo?, or that famous pass in Utah?

The good news is that with this last three hours of moving snow, I can make it all the way to the road with the tractor without getting stuck. Unfortunately, it is only 7-ft wide in most places, with 3-5 foot banks -- or higher, on each side.

We can now finally get out the kitchen door. I still have to dig out my truck -- which I put outside, so the tractor could be in the garage.

We've got TV back again. The satellite antenna was covered with snow. I tried to get the tractor out to it, but it was too deep. It was crotch deep through the entire front yard to the antenna. [Note to self: Get a new set of snowshoes.]

I've thought about a snowthrower for the tractor a few times. But, our driveway goes over a stream and through a ravine. The far side of the driveway is extremely steep. Even in the summer, I have to put the tractor is 4-WD just to get the bushhog up that part of the driveway. There is no way I'd be able to get the tractor up there with a snow thrower on the back.

I do have a 24-inch walk behind snowthrower. It's mouth is only 18-inches high, and I struggled with it to get to the garage. The snow was 8-12 inches deeper than the snow thrower's mouth was high.

I think (know) neither Lynda nor I will be going to work tomorrow.

Stay warm and dry,
Ken

My builder had to come over w/ his small excavator. It has a small blade in front of the tracks. Then the plowing company finally came, and they had to be pulled out with the excavator 4 times between my driveway and my neighbor's driveway.

What an ordeal!

My neighbor's driveway is only 10' wide, and it took quite a bit of digging just to find it.

Brutal.

One of the few times it's nice not owning a bunch of land to maintain... Just a small driveway and two parking spaces to uncover from the snow. I just found out the county I work for closed the government tomorrow and since I have training all next week I am considered a non essential employee, so I get paid and still don't have to go to work! For once I am happy about the snow... My fiancee is a school teacher and I don't think she'll be going to work anytime in the near future.

That happened with the Midwest's blizzard of '78.' Not much else to do I guess. \:\/ It's also stopped crime in Detroit 100 percent during the storm.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
