There are only a few of them and there is no evidence of spawning activity. These few continue to get bigger each year. They are in the "always release" category on the fishing rules list. Fantastic looking northern, especially from a pond. What kind of hooks do you use for the northerns so that you don't hurt them, or so they don't swallow the hook?

Dwight, Which comes first that 26" LMB or a 45" NP? Catman, This is what we usually use for ice fishing: http://www.fishusa.com/Lindy-Techni-Glo-Frostee-Jigs_p.htmlYou can tell from the bite if it is a big fish, so we don't waste anytime setting the hook. I have yet to have a big fish swallow one, but if they did I would clip the line as close to the jig as feasable. Not much for them to pass that way. On the rare occasion that we use big chubs in the summer, I use a quick strike rig under a slip bobber, and there again set the hook a couple seconds after the float goes down, seems like you always get them in the roof of the mouth and are easily unhooked with a needlenose.
Good morning Dave, I've checked the ships systems, and everything appears to be running normally.

Thanks Stick. I'd not seen those before -- although I can't really envision a big burly bad-natured northern pike taking a dainty pink lure. When I regularly fished for northerns as a kid, which I did nearly daily in the summer, I always felt sorry for them when I had to throw them back. In those days most were caught on big treble hooks, and the fish were never happy about it. Just because of those days, I never use treble hooks anymore.

cmd,
In your hand they look pink, but when you "glow" them they are bright red. Red for NP, Blue for LMB, seems wierd, but that is my inkling.

Quieter day on Bremer Pond yesterday, got some perch and crappie. Had one large fish on but it spat my hook before I got to see what it was. Ice is thick and heavy duty. All the rain we got ate the snow off the pond. You can drive anywhere you care to now.
