Some states have nuisance permits that allow trapping them at any time, IIRC.

Better check what permits are required for PVC hunting. You don't want a Game Warden or Home Depot all up in your business.

I have had good success with a bag of frozen peas and a pea trap.

tj,
I would trap. A floating platform trap would be my first choice.
Besides being very effective for muskrats it's above the surface & therefore very visable & less likely to attract fast moving projectiles.

Rex shot them too. After they were released he was sure they were otters.

Cecil, I know you only do fish, but do you know a taxidermist who handles PVC?

Hell just mount it in a shadow box with Rex's picture next to it.

Rex was at my farm since last night.

He's been randomly shooting things. Last I heard my PVC 12" overflow was in critical condition.

He also ran over my "For Sale" sign. It looked like a bulldozer had smashed it.

Don't feel bad Rex. I've got you beat. I accidentally pointed my rifle on the firing range at the drill instructor in basic. To say he came unglued was an understatement.

He told us to raise our hands if our guns were jammed. I raised the wrong hand. I raised the hand with the rifle in it. \:o

Too Funny:
You guys are living in the wild compared to me. When our outflow was left open we got inundated with Muskrats. But here in Urban Stepfordville a guy from the city told us that We were living in the Muskrats habitat - can you imagine that? On a man made lake? The world has gone wacko. We had to pay someone with a license to trap them, we got 13 at $30 each, only GLLakechair and I ponied up to pay for it - as usual. The funny part was Harvey, just beside himself with the holes they were digging in his yard, and eating all his Hosta. That was worth the money to see him going wild, like Elmer Fud.
I so wish to shoot a gun - however it is illegal here in city limits to discharge a firearm, even a bow and arrow for the carp is against the rules. These rules were made to be broken don't you think?
Makes you wonder what Rainman was drinking.

Both the For Sale sign and PVC were coming right for me!

I HAD NO CHOICE!!!

IIRC TJ, you asked me to go get the pistol, and Bruce, you were upset I wasn't packing when we ran across the new muskrat digs on your pond.

Ps to TJ, you're muskrat has better flow capacity now!

PS to Bruce, I wouldn't have backed over your sign;

1) If the beautiful Conderosa were not for sale, the silly sign wouldn't have been there in the first place!

and

2) If you had TOLD me M.J. had permission to fish your pond, I would not have backed up to question him as to why he was there!

Thank you both very much for the hospitality! Need anything else killed or crushed next week?

I wish I could at least say it involved alcohol! I hope someday you'll let me back into Nebraska......Bruce, I also hope you remember that I at least brushed my teeth after eating all your Oreo's before my dental appointment

CJ, Here's the type I have used: http://evertrap.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=watertrapping&thread=1380&page=1#12406

Here's another, one I've never heard of before but looks cumbersome: http://www.wildlifecontrolsupplies.com/M...de=safebeavmusk

Here's a good outline for trapping rats: http://www.rogueturtle.com/articles/muskrat.php

I like the smaller floaters with 2 legholds .. one on each end for easier transport but you can make them to accomodate several occupants.

Actually pond related ...

It still looks like Bruce's Dad is dating a Rainbow video girl.

Although late to the party.....anyone who hasn't mistaken PVC for a muskrat is just not familiar with the camouflage techniques of 'rats.

A guy down the road actually failed his final plumbing inspection when a dozen or so muskrats unglued themselves and walked out of his new house. There were leaks everywhere!

Palm to forhead. Dangit!! Thinking back to my years of rat trapping, all that cussing & tossing pieces of pvc from my sprung traps. It was them wasn't it!!
Hey!! I've got a bin of pvc in the basement ... maybe.. you think?.. I'm going to go have a look. Might be an easy way to make a couple of bucks.
All I gotta do is skin some pvc fittings.

Glad I reread this post...illicited a much needed chuckle.

On the positive side - I think my MINK has been tracking and helping with my Skrat problem...haven't seen recent evidence of them.

I told my wife that the guys are givin' me a hard time again. She immediately said "Well, when you shoot a pipe instead of a Muskrat, that makes you fodder for years, and, you probably instigated it!" Then she asked if she'd guessed right.....Damn she's GOOD! \:\)

Just had a thought and yes, it hurt. Perhaps I can get the guys at JJ Ranch to put some PVC on the deer they want me to shoot for the Rusty Baker Outdoors episode they're taping. No way I'd miss! Heck, I'd even use the pistol at 75 yards!
