I don't know enough about the Taxidermy business's wants, needs and pricing to give an educated WAG. The Brookies were a good idea 'till they started dieing. Would you be using it to raise fish for sale alive or dead?

The trout need the flow-thru water to keep the water temps down in the summer, which = increased electrical consumption = more overhead. Some of the other fish that are really colorful and don't take a lot of overhead probably aren't in big demand (I was thinking of some of the colorful sunfish). For selling live fish, would you have to have any of them tested? If so, there's more overhead.

Both. Bass Pro Shops is interested in live large yellow perch, smallmouth bass, and even expressed an interest in the pumpkinseeds. I'm pretty sure they could be interested in large live bluegills intra state also, which wouldn't require testing.

I only need to test for fish going out of state. I can deliver live fish to the two Bass Pro Shops in Indiana without any testing. I was going to do that with smallmouth bass last spring but had some problems with them which I have learned from since. I'm not crazy about hauling fish but if it's worth my while financially I'll do it. Or maybe if I paid someone to do the hauling.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

I have. That's why I indicated the above species. The trout are big sellers but with pumping cost and more mortalities it's almost a wash. And truthfully the taxidermy sales are down a little due to the economy.

I was asking because I am always open to new ideas.

Yes which is where my Mother-in-law lives so I'm familiar with Hammond. I did speak to their tank manager last year and she was very interested and had to pass it by Cabela's management and get back to me. Never heard back. I'll be more aggressive next time. Maybe sweeten the pot with free hauling the first time.

The last time I was in there the fish looked like they needed some fresh faces. They also have a trout stream with 16"+ or so rainbows and goldens. I didn't pay close attention, so I'm not sure if there are any other species in the "stream".

How is the water in the pond now? Did it clear it up? Also, do those trout always have red on their bellies like that? Our permits expire on 12/31, so our fish kill II will be coming soon. The water isn't super high, so it should work out with shutting off the outflow. Last weekend the surface temp was 44. Our lake looks like crap.

It's still Coca-cola colored possibly because the KMNO4 didn't last long enough and got spent too early, and the manganese dioxide precipitate. The Koi Pond guys add Hydrogen Peroxide to get rid of the manganese oxide byproduct, but I didn't. At a pint and half per 1000 gallons in a 100,000 gallon pond I don't think my local Wallmart has enough pints on hand. LOL

Once I get the fingerling bluegills in the cage out for the RAS system, the pond will be drained and sterilized in the spring. The treatment stressed the trout but it didn't seem to have any effect on the bluegills.

Note: The following spring when I drained I found about 20 brook trout that were fine.

Thank you EWest:
I am thinking they should put the rotenone in the storm drains for an effective kill. 100 carp were spotted today right near where a storm drain empties into the lake. Thinking they are in there or going in there for warmth. I have had a thin layer of ice on my frontage out about 25 feet the last two mornings. Fish kill is this week.
