With the up and down water level in me new pond I am looking for ideas/suggestions on how to create a pole/rod/etc that will show me the water level at a glance. I want to more accurately measure keep track of the water level changes. Here is a picture that shows the support for the siphon system pipe. I could attach the pole/rod/etc to one of these 4x4s. Any ideas what to use? how to attach? how to label the feet/half feet?

Somebody here had a PVC pipe water level measuring device. Was it Dwight?

Kind of what I had in mind but was going to use a longer piece of PVC pipe. Like atleast 10' or 15' long. I also need to read it from a longer distance so I was going to use different colors for 3", 6", and 12" intervals. With the depth level at the 12" intervals are. Would 1 1/2" PCV hold up for this? I am thinking of attaching it to the 4x4 with straps.

I have a piece of pipe (1" galvanized) that I drove into the pond bottom at what once was low pool. I had wrapped electrical tape at 1' increments on the pipe, but I've since upgraded the system. I attached a 6' long yellow powder coated aluminum measuring stick that I bought at Lowes. It's marked in 1/4" increments and I can read it from the shore. I set the measuring stick so that the 6' level is at the highest level that the water was in the pond, which corresponds to the water level as it goes out of the pond thru the emergency spillway. I just used black zip ties to attach it to the pipe.

Here is what I ended up doing for a rough water level measuring device. It is a 1" PVC pipe 15' long with different color electrical tape at 3" intervals.

This is good for seeing the water level at a far and in photos but I have to be at the pond to see this. Wondering if anyone was seen a electronic water level measuring device that logs the information for later access. I would like to record hourly observations to get a better handle on exactly how much water is leaking out of the pond and if a stabilizes at a certain level. Any ideas here?

lassig,

If you can build it yourself this is the way to go:

If not, you could try the one below and I'm sure there are others out there but most are not cheap and are not accurate across a wide temperature range.

Thanks for the pointers, very interested in the AquaRod till I saw the price. I didn't find that one in my searches. I still interested in it, just need to see if I can get a used one or work a lease deal with them. I hoping I don't need this for more than a year or two.
