I picked up this water based unit at the PBIII silent auction. It has been in operation centered on the pond since the day after returning from PBIII.

Even though there have been numerous flocks of geese over flying as they migrate south, they haven’t roosted on either the pond or its banks. This is highly unusual and I attribute it to the Awaywithgeese unit.

I have observed that at dusk and later flocks of geese will circle the pond and then leave apparently seeing the predator eyes imitation given off by the Awaywithgeese unit. On two occasions the geese actually landed on the top of the pond banks and then immediately left the area.

I still want to see how the unit performs in the spring when the geese tend to stay longer in an area awaiting warming weather and open water. I will be holding off on the final grade until then, but so far I am impressed with the effectiveness of the Awaywithgeese unit.

If you have goose issues check out awaywithgeese.com. They are a Pond Boss Magazine advertiser.

You're gonna drain the battery if you leave it turned on, Dwight.

IIRC, you have about 5 surface acres of water. The single unit seems to be doing the trick?

I wondered about that too, but it seems to cover 5 SA just fine. It is visible line of sight everywhere on the pond.

But it's blinking on and off up at the top of the thread, sitting in your shop with very little sunlight!

I'm checking back here in a week.

How noticeable is the light? The website says it is barely noticable to humans but it looks like it would be noticeable - especially at night.

Besides discharging the battery, Theo, I can't see how it's frightening off the geese by blinking on and off inside the shop.
And it's no wonder that humans wouldn't notice it for the same reason. Must have an X-ray or an ultrasound component. Probably related to all the global warming stuff too.

The photo (GIF file) at the top of the thread is not a true depiction of what it looks like in use. That is only a computer simulation. It blinks much less often and with a much shorter and quicker flash in practice.

I will try to get a video of it in operation at night. It really is only barely noticeable to the human eye.

Sometimes the things you see on the World Wide Web are not perfectly portrayed even though the Internet is on the computer now.

It's very interesting how this is supposed to work. It mimics UFO's that hover over water and suck up geese. It happens all the time and it puts the fear of God in geese.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

I think Ewest would remind us that it's actually a van with a hole cut into the floor.

That's pretty far fetched. I'll take the UFO explanation. Much more believable.

This doesn't have much in common with the thread but is a funny story just the same. About fifteen years ago there was a guy who used to feed the Canadian geese at a lake in Rochester Minnesota. The city for the most part hated the birds, lots of crapping, getting in the way of cars etc.. A large flock living year round in this partially heated lake. Some people would park their cars by the lake and feed the birds bread, So after a spell the birds became very tame. A mother and her daughter were feeding the geese one day, when the little girl noticed that a goose that had gone under one of the parked trucks and did not come back out. She told her mother about the bird and the two of them watched a second goose disappear the same way. They explained this to a cop who was driving through the parking lot. When the officer went to investigate the four wheel drive truck, he noticed while talking to the driver, that a large hole had been cut out of the trucks passenger floor board and broken pieces of bread in the seat above. This guy was waving the bread through the hole, and when the poor goose would poke his head up into the truck, the enterprising hunter would grab the neck of the bird, spin it around a few times and throw them behind the seat. They found out later on that this old guy had been doing this for years. Maybe we could find this fella and send him Dwights way.

I wonder what the light would do to/for feral hogs?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

The guy in the van was an extraterrestrial. I just know it! Ringing earth goose's necks is one of the fastest growing sports on the third planet in near Alpha Centauri! ;\)

I'm happy to report that as Dwight has testified this light works fantastically. Last evening I left my computer on and maximized the image above on my monitor. This morning there is not one goose in my office.

Unfortunately however using this product is not without risk.

Anyone know how to revive a catatonic ring tailed lemur?

Funny story but ... it aint that easy to ring a goose's neck.
