I have to cover 5 acres and want to know if the trucks spread it along the edges will it ever reach all of the bottom of the pond?
If I do pelleted lime, what is the best way to spread it?

In the early 80's I did a lot of liming in natural ponds/lakes to recover/raise the PH-valu that was declined do to acid-rain.
We then used shell-sand for the purpose, to get it spread evenly on the biger lakes, we realy only had one option.
Spread it evenly out on the ice, spring/summer comming, and the job was finishd with ice melting down.
To day they wery often use heli-lift but if the pilot is not experienced/familiar with the kind of lift and dump, the old way
is stil a functional and cheap way.
But if you got plenty of $ and a pilot that has done duty fighting forrest fires, well then you vow have 2 optiones.

Lime spreader trucks can back up to the pond and let it fly. If the spreader has directional slingers-even better.

Pelleted lime is finer particles of regular, crushed limestone, and is bound together to dissolve quicker (and it's more expensive). Pelleted is better for use in soil, but IMO, it's not worth the extra cost if used in water.

doc, I think from looking at your sattelite image of the pond you may be able to back into several locaitons. This is very important. If you cna nto backup to most of the pond then it will not reach most of the pond bottom. It does float acorss the pond quite well.

As rianman mentions you need to get spreader truck that runs offf pto not jsut drive shaft this way he can backup perpendicular to shore.

Also we of course lime ponds via barge this is the best method to cover the entire pond. The cost of adding 4-6 tons, the normal rate we recommend for most SE soils, is very pricey going the bag route. Liquid lime is an option but again very pricey compared to bhulk ag lime. Good option is acre or less.
