I have a large well insulated shop building, that rarely if ever gets below 32 degrees.I have several unused galvanized cow/horse tanks from about 6' oval to 8' round. I have a waterline going to this shop that is at some point a little too shallow making it necessary for me to keep the water running at a trickle in this shop to keep it from freezing up. What can I do with all of that to get my pond/fish fix during the winter months. My pond is as described below.

See Cecil Envy. Also, do a search for "PBR" to catch the related Po' Boy RAS threads. I get through every Winter this way now; YP this year (fingers crossed).

Thanks for the link. I recalled reading that thread but couldn't find it amongst Bruce's 6000 other posts. "Cecil Envy" would not have been my guess as the title of it.

You just have to remember the opening lines of the thread: I have news for everybody. Cecil Baird haunts my dreams. As if you could forget them. (shudder)

What species would I be least likely to kill? Species that I might actually want to later transfer to my pond.

Why not raise FHM or some other kind of delicious bite size meals for the whole pond to enjoy?
You could also try to feed train some LMB fingerlings assuming that they would be able to survive in that type of environment.
I myself haven't tried an outdoor winter tank project, but I'm sure plenty of the pondmeisters around here have. The two suggestions above would be my top two projects to try if I was in your situation.

This would be indoor. What do FHM eat that could be added to the tank? (too lazy to search the forum). If I remember correctly i wouldn't be able to get them reproducing in a tank in the winter.

Crush up regular pelleted fish food. Catfish crumble will work good.

Does the name Pavlov ring a bell?
