Can someone please explaine to me why the shimano stradic is 220 dollars and the similar reel that they make called the symetre is only one hundred. They look identical.

Is one made in the USA and the other elsewhere?

They are both made in Malaysia. Where is Shimano supposed to be from?

Can someone please explaine to me why the shimano stradic is 220 dollars and the similar reel that they make called the symetre is only one hundred. They look identical. All I can say is the reel I can afford, and use on nearly all my spinning rods, is the Symetre. It may be unique to my experience, but sadly I have noticed over the last few years the Symetre doesn't seem to be made as solidly as in the past...which is disheartening - as Shimano Calcutta and Curado are my baitcasting mainstay and Symetre has always been my spinning reel. I'm on the lookout for a new line of spinning reels - anyone in love with their reel let me know.

I agree TJ, the quality of the mid range Shimano reels has dropped...

TJ the reason I was even asking the question is that it seems that the drag on the symetre does not hold up after about six months of fishing. My friend told me that the drag parts on the symetre are now made out of plastic instead of metal. It seems that for a hundred dollars they should hold up better. two hundred dollars plus is a bit high for me.

I'm with you completely. Spending $200 just to ensure your reel is dependable is ridiculous. So ridiculous, I refuse to do so.
I would really like someone, who routinely takes their reels apart and performs maintenance, etc to provide some spinning reel recommendations. I've heard good things about the Pflueger reels...?

I bought the pflueger a year ago and the first hybrid that stripped the drag on me hard burned out the drag. It was the presidential model.

I know that for the heavier saltwater reels, there are (or were)drag washer rebuild kits that use better washer material. Are there similar kits for the freshwater reels?
