I am looking to purchase a good basic (I am not a scientist )water testing kit. Any opinions or information on the LaMotte, Hach test kits or any of the Hanna digital meters would be appreciated.

Thanks
Ron

Hi Ron -

If you haven't already done so, you may want to take a look at the "GENERAL QUESTIONS" section, under the heading "Water Chemistry". A search in this area may yield more information to help address your question.

In the meantime, here are a couple of links to some past posts that may offer some assistance.

In the following two links, the posts by member PaPond are the ones to focus on. Hope this helps.

Russ provided some good links. Personally as far as test kits I wouldn't be too concerned with brand. They are all good.

As far as more sophisticated meters make sure you really need them. Sometimes we spend big bucks on something we want vs. need. Personally I don't believe most recreational pond owners need to shell out several hundred dollars for an oxygen meter. I have a PHD down the road from me that raises fish for a living, and he will not use meters to measure his water quality. Doesn't trust them. He uses test kits for everything.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Hello Ron,

If you could hold off until the Pond Boss Conference, we will have something to offer everyone from home pond testing to intense aquaculture testing.

It will allow up to 100 test and is replenishable. I field tested this kit on Monday and was very happy with the results. Comparing the results to my $2000 Hydrolab multi meter, there was only a .02mg/l difference in Oxygen levels.
