Well, it was in the high 20s with light snow when I got home this afternoon. I saw a small hole in the pond that Mother Nature made just for me to go fishing through on the last day of 2009. I guess she forgot to tell the fish!

Great looking fish, all. I don't think we'll see any fish, big or small, for a couple more months.

Caught my biggest trout to date on Dec 31st 2009 at 11 am.

Took me ten minutes to finally get it landed with a little schoolie fishing rod on 4 lb test. He was 23.5 inches long with a 15.5 inch girth! Squeezin him through a 6 inch hole was no easy task!!

That's a fine looking trout Nate... How big was it when stocked and how long has it been in the pond?

Question on fish identification. I caught this cat in Fort Lauderdale in October '08 (I know, wrong thread ) and always thought it (and all the many others we caught) were small flatheads. Certainly aren't blues, channels, or bullheads, but now I'm skeptical. What species of catfish is this?

I'm going to say Brown Bullhead, I have seen them with speckles, but not quite that many. Final answer.

Thanks esshup. They seemed pretty big for BH and didn't make any noise so I had ruled them out.

Essup, I'm reading a bit on this and it says browns only get in the 8-14 inch range. These fish were in the 20-24 range. I'd really like to nail this down, because there were a ton of these guys in that lake and we were basically catching them at will using chicken liver, targeting a sharp drop off about 10 feet from the bank. Very active at night. Made no noise when handled if I recall correctly. Anymore insight would be great.
