i couldnt hardly get my fish to eat anything earlier this year except bread. started using game fish chow and they loved it. now they have really slowed down. you can throw a handful of feed and maybe a few will come to it. toss in a piece of bread in with the feed and they will tear the bread up. i can feed them a loaf of bread and there will still be pellets floating all around!!

got some aquamax 500 on the way, think that will help?

They may have hit the hottest-point-on-the-year feeding slow down. What is your (surface) water temp?

I would agree with Theo that the water temp has probably just gotten to the point where they are not feeding much.

I don't feed much bread to my fish, but I do chum with it and use it for bait. They go crazy for it. Wads of bread pressed around a hook are the best bluegill bait in our pond.

What brand are you using now? The Aquamax could very well make a difference. I've got all my feeders feeding three times a day with 500 and the fish are going at it like a bunch of piranhas on a chunk of prime rib.

Egad -- white bread only -- the kind that never molds under any circumstances!

The unhealthier the bread, the better the fish like it. I've found that it is a toss-up between potato-bread hotdog or hamburbger rolls, and really yucky-gummy white bread, like Wonder Bread.

\:o I thought they stopped making that after they found it contributed to acquired albinism, aka towheads or "Larry Byrd Syndrome". ;\)

Potato bread makes great bait... All gooey and sticks to the hook great. I love it for catching park pond BG, carp and GSH.

It sounds like they are like kids in a candy store; passing up the 32% protein and going for the junk food. I might fish with bread but wouldn't allow my fish to stuff their guts with it and turn up their noses at the stuff with the required nutrition.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I agree 100%. Once my fish start back on pellets in the springtime, they never seem to turn down another healthy meal.

However, I don't give them the temptation of regular bread feedings. One hamburger bun is enough to get them into a feeding frenzy and to catch enough bluegill for dinner. If we've got too much left over bread from a picnic or party, the worms get most of it.

You should only feed Pumpernickel bread to your fish.

Never feed processed white bread.

This statement has absolutely no basis in fact but Pumpernickel bread is much more fun to say.

I predict your fish will like Aquamax, Scott. In any case make sure to give us a report.

I paid $24.50 per bag last week for 500 and 600. Seems like the biggest factor, assuming that you are buying from a Purina dealer, is cost of transport.

I've heard grain prices are down this year... I know GFC and Aquamax are made with a lot of fish product, but I am sure some grain goes into it. Perhaps that is the reason?

Looks like we have a trend !!!! \:\) CJ it has soome grain and I think fish meal prices are down some and that demand is off due to the economy - my guess.
