I finally started a photobucket account so I can now post pic's of my pond. It was built last November, it is between 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 acre with a maximum depth of 18 feet. See pic's below:

Day 2.

You can just make out the top of my house in the tree line.

Day 4. Sarting to take shape. The depth is deceptive. With everything the same color, contours and depth are difficult to see. The pond is about 10 feet deep at this point.

When they have the right equipment they make it look easy.

That dark blue vein is premium grade clay. My builder says it the best pond building soil he has seen. I hope he is right.

My daughter in the photo gives it a little perspective.

From the bottom looking up.

This was taken about 10 days after completion. It only took 7 days from start to finish. The lighting is much better and you can see contours and depth a little better.

The rock pile at the far end is concealing the overflow drain.
You can see I've got a long way to go till I'm full.

Jump forward to Spring, I planted 25 white pines and 12 cypress around the pond.

I then built a 10' x 20' dock.

Then I started on the shelter.

The last of these pics were taken around May. Iv'e gained about 2 feet in depth. I've still got about 4' to go. I'm fine with that. I know it will be full next spring. This month I hope to finish the shelter, including power, light, receptacle and ceiling fan, power & light to the dock, and aerator. I have everything ready to go as soon as I can finish trenching. I can't wait to see how my pond will be and look in about 3 more years.

Very, very nice work. Love every bit of it, right down to the dock and shelter. I'm with ya; can't wait to see what it looks like as it matures. Congrats CAW....big time.

I love my pond and my place. But, a little jealousy and envy is OK now and then -- isn't it?? Great looking place.

I guess you must be far enough south and west that you aren't getting dumped on with all the rain that northeastern Ohio keeps sending over my place here in the Potomac Highlands of WV. My pond came up five inches in just an hour last Sunday, and it has been above pool since I don't know when.

And yes, keep up the photos.

Ken

I wish I had the rain you have got. We got nothing this spring. I really don't know how my pond is as full as it is. I only get a little runoff from 1 corner and that comes across my driveway. I have a small creek about 100 feet from the pond. It's usually dry except in the spring. I had planned on pumping from the creek to help fill it. We haven't even had enough rain for me to pump it. My pond builder made me a sump pit with a manhole cover about 12 feet deep to pump from. I haven't even had enough water to make an effort. I would pump it dry in about 2 minutes. I'm not that concerned about it though. My forage is doing great. By the time I start stocking LMB next year it will be full. Until then, I'm having a blast working on everything.

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone. Every day is like "what can I do next". I'm having a lot of fun with it. I've wanted a pond for as long as I can remember. I'm sure it's the same with all of you. I'll occasionally post more pics as I progress and the pond fills up. I'm afraid that may take awhile.

Hang_Loose,
It rose about 18 inches. I only have about 3 feet to go. It's a bit muddy. The fish don't seem to mind. They fed as vigorous as always tonight. The whole experience has been a ball. Every time I look at the pond, I see what it will be like in 2 or 3 years. I don't think us pondmeisters could ever have a pond big enough. We would all have Lake Erie if we could. But I'm pretty satisfied at the moment. It's big enough to do everything I want. I don't need to grow tons of big fish but I would like to be able to max out a dozen or so. My goal is 7 pounds. Pretty big for Ohio.

I'm assuming your in the Big Walnut area. Sunbury and Germantown AKA Valley View both have excellent football programs.
I see your school in the playoffs every year. I'm pretty familiar with your area. I've fished a lot of tournaments at Alum Creek although I've never been to Hoover which is probably closer to you. If you're ever in the area you have an open invitation to come and fish.
