Will Chromosome Y Go Bye-Bye?
Is the End of Men Imminent?
By RADHA CHITALE

July 17, 2009

What makes a man a man? Socially, that is a complicated question. Genetically, however, it is as simple as a single Y chromosome.
IS THE MALE Y CHROMOSOME DISAPPEARING?
Is the male Y chromosome disappearing?
But guys, that chromosome is in trouble.
In a new study, researchers say there is a dramatic loss of genes from the human Y chromosome that eventually could lead to its complete disappearance -- in the next few millennia. While the Y chromosome's degeneration has been known to geneticists and evolutionary biologists for decades, the study sheds new light on some of the evolutionary processes that may have contributed to its demise and posits that, as the degeneration continues, the Y chromosome could disappear from our genetic repertoire entirely.

"It's certainly possible, but it's difficult to predict when it will happen," said Kateryna Makova, an associate professor of biology at Penn State University, who led the study, which was published Thursday in the journal PLoS Genetics.

Geneticists and evolutionary biologists agree that the Y chromosome is degenerating -- and far more rapidly than its X counterpart

Your lucky Theo,I've been hearing it a lot longer than that.Isnt it funny however, that a woman discloses that man is disappearing, and woman will take over the world?Besides we all know they cant survive without us.What would they do for entertainment if we men weren't here. They'd have noone to laugh at.

The fact that I'm a graduate of Penn State and the study was done there, I don't know what to think...

Ya know, things that MIGHT happen in the next millenia really don't keep me awake nights.

This is actually just nature at work. It doesn't take as many males as it does females to insure the success of a species. Of course, this assumes that the males aren't from Hollywood.

Biology, evolution and the way sociology of a species affects them is truly amazing!

It's the estrogens. They're everywhere. In your drinking water, in the air you breath, In the food you eat. Girls flush their birth control pills down the toilet and guess where they end up in our drinking water. There are also xenoestrogens (sp) which are not actualy estrogens but mimic estrogens so your body interprets them as estrogen. Those can be found in soy, exhaust from cars, some perfums, some cleaning products.

The weston A price foundation does a lot of research on this topic. Most of their research is on the effects of soy on the body.

I've always figured it was in lite beer and diet drinks(DMD).

Budweiser ought to neutralize it. Aw heck, Budweiser drinkers don't need anything neutralized.

You make a good point with the beer and diet drinks.

Hopps in beer has lots of estrogen it. Budweiser doesn't have any hopps so your safe there (hahah).

It's kind of scary if you think about it. Male sperm counts are dropping radically as well as testosterone levels. What was once considered a deficient testosterone level is now considered normal. In other words they have lowered the bar on normal testosterone levels.

I think the drop in testosterone is the leading cause of Perez Hilton. hahaha.

I would be extremely offended at this comment if it didn't have so much truth in it. \:D

Hmmm, Theo, perhaps you should have your DMD analyzed.

Just think of the environmental benefits. If there are no men to take out the trash, there will be no landfills. There will also be no emmissions coming from lawn mowers and refrigerator doors will not be left open due to male pattern blindness.
