Ewest you might want to check this thread if you're looking for images of female hybrid lepomids. I'm almost certain that the fish on the bottom is a female, based on coloration, morphology and distended ventral area. http://www.bigbluegill.com/forum/topics/...984Comment40289

Here's another stunning image provided by one of the members of http://www.bigbluegill.com to add to the PB archives of sunfish coloration/variation.

That thing looks like it is pissed off. It looks like the Chuck Norris of the sunfish.

He's got quite a few black tipped scales. I'm thinking he's pretty horny. And pissed that a redear was trying to invade his territory.

The facial expression of that fish reminds me of Mr T when he's all ticked off with his forehead scrunched down when he is saying "I Pity the fool!"

Wow these are some great color variations, I have a question in regards to color. Will a CNBG keep his "Coppernose" for all of spawing season? something like April-October or however it falls. Or do they lose/regain color every few weeks? Or what happens to make them gain/lose color?
Get out and fish.

Beat you to the punch Eric... I am sure Sunil has some good rock bass photos from his pond, as I recall he has some in it. They are fairly common in the upper Potomac and the creek behind out hunting cabin. They seem to be similar in SMB in a lot of ways. Liking rocky areas and not being nearly as common in ponds or lakes as they are in rocky rivers...
