Length: Width: Average Depth:
350x80x18
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Results:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
350 ft × 80 ft = 28,000.00 ft²
1 acre = 43,560 ft²
28,000.00 ft² ÷ 43,560 ft² = 0.64 surface acres
0.64 surface acres × 18 ft = 11.57 acre ft
(That's going to be a nice addition to your fishing hole)

Wow...impressive, James. How deep is it at the wall behind the water?

I was afraid to stand next to the wall since it is about 18 feet and I did not want to get buried. How that thin piece of dirt is holding back all that water I do not know.

I learned last week from a crappie guide that crappie prefer brush over any other cover and their favorite brush is willow with the leaves left on the branches. This is why I am going to wait until the very end and place willow brush right before the dam is broken.

The construction company is planning on taking the track hoe along the levy and dumping the dirt into the hole as they go. I would not want to be the operator but they have already done a lot of things that looked scary to me.

I think it depends on what type of soil you have too because the track hoe has sat right on the edge of that 18ft cliff and it hasn't given way I guess because it is clay.

James have you considered leaving an earthen peninsula out into the lake?

I agree with Rockytopper. That peninsula would give you two extra banks to hold fish. If the levee breaks early, the track hoe will add some nice structure too. Just a thought.

Latest update. The construction company has now removed over 20,000 yards of dirt and still need more. I told them that I didn't want any more dirt removed unless they paid for the water well to run for eight months. They agreed to pay for the water well to run for eight months, build a long bridge out to the dock, buy me hay, put about six dump truck loads of topsoil off of my property at the front gate, dig me a cattle pond, and reseed the grass. In return I have agreed to allow them to put their chunks of cement into the pond in the shape of a teepee and remove five to seven thousand yards more of dirt. Right now it seems like my entire place is torn up. The good news is that my pond is only about three inches low even in this 100 degree plus heat. The water well seems to really be helping slow down the summertime drop.

They are using it for road construction. Each time I have made a new demand before they can take more dirt than the original agreement they have looked for other sources but have come up empty handed each time. The dirt I have has almost zero expansion and contraction which must be a big deal for road construction.

Wow!! That is one sweet deal you have going. Most folks are paying out the nose to have ponds built or enlarged and you're getting it all for free with extras thrown in on top.

James, have the contractor call me. He can have lots of my dirt if he'll dig where I want him to. I could use a bridge, a pavillion, a new fire pit, ...

Well we hit a bit of a snag today. Two inches of rain fell and flooded the area where they were digging and had already removed probably four or five thousand yards of dirt. It is a square hole full of water that is 18ft deep by fifty feet wide 200 feet.
