Big boy toys….my 320 SLK didn’t stand a chance against these rockets on wheels.

The pucker factor kicked in at 175 mph.

Nice! I just got done training software at a Ferrari/Maserati/Lambo/Porsche/Audi dealer and got a ride in a Ferrari 16M Scuderia Spider. One of there biggest customers is up there in Kansas with 8 Ferraris right now. They also had a kevlar rienforced, armor plated F430 from Mexico. I wish I had the money, but realistically it would probably go into a bigger pond or property.

Top speed of a Police Ford Crown Vic, 128 mph. Top speed of a Police Dodge Charger, 156 mph... Winner, the nut that wants to outrun the police doing 175 mph! Well, until he wipes out and turns fine Italian engineering into scrap metal! I once clocked a Lamborghini at 143 mph on I-95. I just laughed and watched him go on by...

I wonder how my Toyota Corolla would keep up?

When I rode motorcycles I routinely ran 175-180 MPH.However, after going down and getting roadrash over 93% of my body,Id like to think I learned to slow down. Also, the wife wont let me buy another one.She still thinks Im crazy,if you can believe that.

Why did I just picture TomG screaming down the road on his bike, cackling like mad and throwing explosives at the road signs?? I think Tom may be the closest thing we have to a human equivalent of Wile E. Coyote, Super-Genius

I was driving my rocket olds home from work running in bumper to bumper traffic in the fast lane at about 80 mph. I looked in my mirror and saw something catching us from behind. To my surprise it was a guy on a rice rocket riding a wheelie standing on the left foot peg with his right foot and hanging off the side with one foot in the air. He passed me and I continued to follow him for at least 5 miles still doing a wheelie he could not get past the traffic in front. At one point we passed a couple of state troopers who pulled someone over on the oppisite side of the road. As we passed by the rider stuck out his hand and gave the officers the old I shot you jester as if he was pulling the trigger on a gun at them. The 2 officers just looked at him and both just shook their heads and continued up to the car that they had just pulled over. I guess they had the same thouhts as CJBS2003.

When it comes to crotch rocket riders, Darwin usually does his work eventually and evolution weeds the ones who ride like that out. Fortunately, they rarely take anyone else out with them which is all that matters to me... The fastest I ever got some on Radar or Lidar was 187 mph. It was a crotch rocket and I laughed and watched him go on by. Not like I was going to catch him anyways. I just gave a look out the the Virginia State Police. Sure enough, about 15 miles south he wrecked and killed himself.

I spent quite a bit of time on dirt bikes without requiring a whole lot of stitches. I owned a street bike for about 2 weeks. Now, I wouldn't give 15 cents for the nicest Harley out there.

I now drive a diesel pick-up if that tells you how fast I go now-a-days.

One time back in college I got pulled over by a cop. I was driving a early to mid '80s Volvo Diesel Wagon 4-speed.

I asked the cop what the problem was, and he said "I noticed you were revving your engine kind of high, and taking corners kind of slow."

I replied "this is a diesel."

He said thanks and got back in his car.

True story.

One more example of Volvo driver profiling.

Of course, there's a little more to the story, but I'll save that for off-line discussions.

I'm sure whatever it was, it was as imported as the Volvo.

Tom: I've seen 10 second 1/4 mile times turned by street legal Dodge Cummins PU's. ;\)

Heck, my 1.9L (the engine's displacement is smaller than 2 large soda bottles) Jetta TDI has dyno'd just shy of 130 hp and 300 lb. ft. of torque with just an ECU re-flash and slightly bigger injectors & I can STILL get over 60 mpg for a whole tank if I watch my right foot.

This thread got me thinking about being a motor head.

Stuff I have done that qualifies me as a motor head:

Raced on the drag strip for several years. Built my own engines.
Raced on the dirt tracks for several years. Built my own cars top to bottom.
Street racing addict back in the late 60s and early 70s.

Run past 150 mph on multiple street bikes.
Done a lot of dirt biking.
Modified my Yamaha GP433 Snowmobile so it would go 100mph on the stubble fields of North Dakota.

Had a 3/32 mile dirt track on our property where part of the pond is now. It was great fun for flat tracking bikes and etc.

Modified a 350 Kawasaki street bike into a flat tracker. It was called the Widow Maker. That bike caused a lot of pain to a lot of people on our track.

Built a go-kart with a modified 350 R3 that would go 80mph on the road and lay rubber in the first 3 gears. I would run that go-kart at full throttle up against the berm on our track never lifting. Intense!

Well, I could go on, but you get the picture.

For my partially untold story, I never had to get out of the car.

I once had a state trooper call my mom to snitch on me. He said he had me on radar at 156 when I hit the highway from the on ramp. Loved my highly modified '71 Charger with the 440 Magnum, dual Holley 1050's and around 600 horses.

6 MPG/Hwy was doable at 45 cents a gallon back then!
