I have a pond that is approx 2 ac. and had a corrugated steel spillway pipe which leaked several years ago and we used Hydraulic cement to stop the leak both from the water surface vertical pipe and the spill pipe at the base of the Dam and then we installed a new PVC surface water drain system..Now we have a leak again in the old pipe and the water level is down 3 ft. it is spring fed so we have reached a point where as much water is coming in as is going out so draining the lake is not feasible. My idea is to pack the old pipe on the dam side with hydraulic cement again with a cap and then pour a soupy mixture of concrete down the old surface spillway pipe again to seal the leak but my question is what are the chances of the corrugated steel pipe going through the approx 50 ft. dam base rusting and allowing water seepage to seep into the soil at the base of the dam..in case we succeed in stopping the leak at the base but it still seeps in through the surface pipe...any thoughts..

zipper welcome glag to have you. Not sure I understand your question, But steel pipe in a dam will not last very long. The water and the dirt both work on it. How much is it leaking it may not be enough to worry about.

The corrugated steel pipe that goes through the dam has been there 50 yrs. and the only rust and weakness was at the surface on the vertical spillway pipe ..it kept rusting lower and lower and then we filled it with hydraulic cement and installed the new PVC pipe but now the old one we filled has developed a leak that sufficient enough to drop the water level 3 ft. so the old pipe has started leaking again and at the back of the dam there is a good flow coming out and the pipe is solid back there..I am just concerned that if we don't get enough cement in there the water may eventually build up pressure and if the steel pipe buried in the dam springs leaks it could saturate the dam and I could have a blow out...any thoughts ?
