I've got a 2 year old 1/2 acre marsh, I put six 12" Bass in the marsh about 6 weeks ago to control the crawfish that had begun to overwhelm the place, it appeared to work. Now, I have 1/2 inch fry swimming in the marsh. Assuming these are "Baby Bass"....though I've never seen any spawning beds and early May seems too early for spawning Bass here in Indiana. Could they be anything else besides offspring from the Bass I put in there? I have not put in any other fish the last 2 years.

Bass could be spawning in Indiana by this time of year. Spawning beds aren't always extremely visible. 6 bass, odds are good at least one of them was of the opposite sex, that's all it would take... As Eric said, a photo would help...

I'm betting that they aren't bass. At 1/2 inch, they could be just about anything.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

There is no stream drainage into the marsh, only about 4 acres worth of ag fields and woods...no other bodies of water. So, I guess they are Bass or something a bird brought in? Possible?
I tried to catch some, but these things are tiny...and fast. could you tell if it was a Bass at that size? they may actually only be 1/4 to 1/2 long at best. They swam in groups of about 50 per school.

They could be Bass, in a shallow body of water they would have spawned a couple weeks ago (I'm referring to N. Indiana) The local bass have been bedding for a couple weeks now, I'm referring to a lake that is 365 acres and averages 15' deep (32' deepest spot)

A shallow marsh would warm up quicker with several days of sunshine, this could get the bass spawning early. A picture would help.
Do they have a thin black horizontal stripe down the side? If so, they are likely LMB fry.

They don't sound like bass to me... Baby bass are not that fast. Usually pretty easy to snag them with a dip net as compared to say most shiner or minnow species.

I saw numerous schools of bass fry on our ponds this weekend. Since they move slowly - don't hundreds of these get picked off by other bass, bluegill, etc?

Yes they do and in a very large %. Its very good that all most all the LMB fry get eaten because they tend to over populate even with that occurring.
