I guess another question would be "Why did it become the prime directive of the human species to freeze extinctions at the year 1900, when there's at least some modestly verifiable evidence that some species were indeed becoming extinct on their own before that point"?

Simple, because the weather is warm, therefore you can have your midriff exposed thereby facilitating easy access to the navel region.

One word answer

Guilt.

Or perhaps the feeling of guilt, that we as a species were obliterating other species (like Buffalo for example) and that if we didn't slow down we would be the only species left.

I'm not saying that it is a logical explanation but it's my explanation none the less. (Which probably excludes it from being a logical explanation).

Hmmm, you know all of this loo talk made me just realize something. I've always wondered what the song "Skip to My Loo" was about. Now I realize it was about a person that really had to go. The kind of urgency that required a faster pace than walking but would not be able to be contained during an all out run.

So "loo" must be code for "commode."

Then "Skip to My Loo" must be an English song.

I think we're lucky it didn't get chosen over "To Anacreon in Heaven" as a tune here in the States.

Holy Mackrel (is that swearing on Pond Boss?) Theo. I had to google "To Anacreon in Heaven" to figure out what the heck you were talking about.

And while we're talking about Theo (well at least I'm talking about Theo) what is up with your latest avatar? I find it hard to believe that a 15" channel cat has a 1" to 1.5" mouth.

AND it's t-storming with a tornado warning. Not my favorite fishing weather. Fortunately, the wi-fi reaches to the root cellar.

So are there actually any roots in your root cellar?

I had never seen a root cellar before I visited JWHAP's folks in Pennslyvania. Imagine my dissapointment when I explored it only to find beer and soda. Sure who doesn't like beer and after a few beers you forget that you were looking for roots.

Oh wait a minute, I think I'm getting it now.

i would answer this through the small reference i made on the previous page about "man" doing what he feels is right, or good, or what he perceives is best during his time here to witness it.

guilt sums it up pretty well.

the whole condor thing is a neat story, but they are no more better suited to survive now despite all the efforts. i view many of these types of beasts as "relics of the ice age". it'd be pretty cool to still have saber tooth cats, giant sloths, and giant beavers.....

Cecil, I think "LOST" stole your idea........

Nah not the same. That series was compelling though until they didn't know when to end it. At least in IMHO.The wife and I watched it through Net Flix but after a while it was like Jeeze it's like they are milking this thing for all it's worth and it keeps twisting and turning and never ends. Kind of like if you're doing a painting and you don't know when to quit.

And another thing about writing, plots etc... It's all be done before but it doesn't mean it can't be done again slightly differently and still be interesting. Just like there are only 7 major notes in a scale in music that doesn't meant we still can't come up with anything interesting.

Hey speaking of extinctions isn't it fascinating that 99 percent of all species that have existed on this planet have gone extinct? And the fact that DNA studies have shown that man nearly did so at one point as our numbers became very very small for some unknown reason.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

I think it is because humans see themselves as the cause of the extinction so they feel compelled to stop it... There certainly is plenty of proof of prior mass extinction, dinosaurs come to mind!

Cecil, I agree about LOST. It's getting out of control - everyone is related to everyone else. Before long it will be like the ol' country song "I'm my own grandpaw"..........

So you're implying that our pond's family tree could use a few more branches? \:D
