For those PB viewers who have taken the challenge of building a pond how long has it taken for some of your ponds to fill? This is the first spring our newly constructed 3/4 acre pond has been through and here are the results so far.

In the words of Bill Cody, "it all depends"! How much watershed? How much runoff during a rain. Porosity of the soils. Etc. How much rain did it take to get the water it currently has? It looks like about 1/20 full.

If you can, try planting some fast growin grasses in the pond basin and all other exposed areas to reduce the silt load and suspended clay.

Sure looks like you're well on your way to a real nice fishery! My guess is you'll be full by summer or real close.

As it fills and after it fills, water will wick back into dry soils. One whopper rain with good runoff can easily do it.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
