Most people seem to ignore the Coot. I like watching them. When they run across the water, there is a whole lot of commotion!! I also like the fact that they don't eat or harass the fish in the pond.

I have always identified more with the Loon. You got any Loons up there?

I have always identified more with the Loon. You got any Loons up there? The Loon is the Minnesota State Bird. They prefer large waters so we have never had one here. It is probably just as well since they are pretty large and have big appetites for fish. We do, however, support the Loon and its buddies.

Coots aren't the smartest bird. Every once in a while I will see a dead one on the side of the road where it walked out into traffic.

The Loon is the Minnesota State Bird. I did not know that. Anyone who has driven in Ohio knows that our state bird is a hand gesture.

We have too many Norwegians in Minnesota for the Ohio hand gesture to have any affect.
