Our family lives in south Ga and we have several bass/bluegill ponds which is very repetitive. I was thinking about draining and restocking a 4 acre pond around Pickerel. Chain pickerel would be prefered, but because of the abundance and easy of harvesting of grass/redfin pickerel in the area, they too are a consideration.

How would I stock a pond around pickerel, and would such a pond be viable?

I was thinking something like pickerel/RES/baitminnows of some variety. Any suggestions?

Jack M., there have been one or two other threads from a few people who have been looking for a source of Chain Pickerel. If I recall correctly, nobody had found a source.

I'm not very familiar with the Chain Pick, but I seem to want to relate it to a southern version of Northern Pike (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

If they are similar to Northern Pike, I would think that an existing fishery of almost any kind of fish, including predators like LMB, might be as good a start as any for Chain Pickerel. Once the CPs reached a certain size, I would think that you would have to be putting in some larger kind of fish for them to feed upon.

Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:"
"She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."
