Anna
Is the water leaking out in one spot or is the whole dam leaking?

I will use it if I can pin point the leak--example around the pipe or on a rock ledge. If the whole dam is seeping from poor soils I would need to look at how much water it is loosing daily.

We have one area on the backside of the dam about 10 feet wide and 25-30 feet long where water perks right through. If you push down anywhere the water pools around the area except when it is extremely dry. I'm thinking an application to the water side of the dam in about a 30 foot radius might work. Our water level stays pretty static but never gets above a certain point. If we gain a few inches with rain it is gone in a day or so and back to the normal level. Seems anything above the static water line seeps out pretty quickly. Makes me think the leak is actually above the normal water line. That said, the natural water line should probably be about 1 - 2 feet higher.

Give it a try and keep us posted.
If you have the weak spot found then the aqua block will seal it up.

Keep us posted.

otto--any luck on your application? my pond is full and will wait till middle or end of summer next year when my spring stops runing to see how fast water drops---i still have two tubs of DBS200---is this aquaseal a similar product or do you know? seems cheaper at first glance---also no toxicity to fish? i am thinking of putting a gate valve on back side of sipon pipe and adjusting outflow so as to raise the pond to maximum height/level--i may need to raise my "runaround" a foot and a half or so. just a thought to get max pond level heading into next summers georgia drought. \:\) ga pond rookie.

It actually looks good --but we have had a lot of rain and that may be part of the picture.

Please keep us updated otto. I'm done trying the DB-XXX products and I'm considering using AquaBlok next spring.

I'm a little confused . . . did you get the AquaBlok product or the DB-XXX in the mail . . .?

Hi All,

Amazing to see how this thread has evolved . . . I want to defer to Otto on his reactions to our bentonite-stone "composite" – AquaBlok, or PONDSEAL as we refer to it for strict sealing applications. I certainly don't want to put words in his mouth, but I thought it at least made sense to touch base . . . it’s been a while! (My apologies that I haven't been able to be more attentive to the forum, but frankly we've stayed very, very busy over the last 12-18 months.)

At any rate, Otto has now worked with our products on a handful of projects down in his neck of the woods. In fact, he helped oversee another truckload-quantity application on a dam face this summer that you'll likely be hearing more about in the magazine come the Jan/Feb 2011 issue. I’ll try not to steal any thunder, but we found Otto the piece of equipment that makes the application pretty darn straight forward (the "stone slinger") for these “lining” applications. As importantly, we got a good operator.

The client was at wits' end and pretty unsure of what way to turn until we started working through a repair design, and I'm pleased to report we seem to have him pretty well squared away. Any water loss now seems to be negligible.

I'd say wait till the details come in print (smile) – but if you want some additional detail on this or other applications, please don't hesitate to contact me. I won’t hide behind the fact that I sell PONDSEAL. But what I really like to do is help people fix problems (and in the process save time, money, and frustration).

I’ll try to plug into the conversation more moving forward. Thanks for the patience.

Eric

PS - The following link may be of interest. It comes from the applicator's MySpace page and has some nice "action" shots of Otto's dam lining project referred to above.

Just click on "Pond Applications" to see the photo album. (Note that the camera couldn't handle the close-up of Otto -- that's why he's blurry!)
