New to the forums.....can't wait for the ice to thaw... Im in omaha with a 15 lake/pond in the back yard. My question is this. Does underwater vegetation and grass occur normally? Our pond is about 10 years old and is a sand pit with clay topsoil. You cant say that we have an overabundance of vegetation to control. just curious so i can improve the habitat.
thanks

Chad, We're glad you found us. Ther will be some much more knowledgable answers soon.

Generally, you want 20% of the pond vegitated. If yours is 10 years old and not aerated, there should be plenty of nutients for plant growth.

Do you know if there are grass carp?

Chad, welcome >> How clear is your lake when the water warms up in the spring through the fall ? Clear water should have you growing vegetation. Carp can cloud the water and slow down growth as can anything that clouds the water column (wind/ wave effect on clay shorlines, lots of inflow too much Aqua shade type product.)to name just a few.

Water clarity depends on wave action mostly, windy as hell in Omaha. I have seen moss growing on the rip rap through the ice-over in winter. there must be something growing. lol
