Although it wasn't a pond, it was my first (and only other) piece of waterfront property. It does play a significant role for our LNP pond project since it was the investment that we cashed out to move on to build the pond. Dski and I think about it now and then. It was a birder's paradise, hands down. We saw so many species that used that river corrider. I was bumping thru my gazillions of file photos and decided that our LNP website needed an infusion of new stuff, so I put together a web page and photo album of our first water inspiration. I wanted to share it with my pond pals, knowing that you guys would appreciate another water viewpoint. My River Home

Wow, what a great place! That had to be hard to leave. I think y'all just like a challenge, and then move on when you've made it about perfect.
Just do it...

Now we know what the level of greatness which you will exceed at LNP. Wonderful stuff back then, even better to come.

I just found this one; should'a included it in the photo album (rolleyes) - The well pit kept the pressure tank and water source unfrozen thru the entire winter. It ran to a a frostproof hydrant next to the craft shed that provided a drinking water source all winter. Since we did not live there full time and did not want to pay to heat it when we were absent, we would winterize the house (mobile home) water system (ie; shut down the water and flush the lines with potable anti-freeze). We went there often during the winter, so Dski and her bird would wait in the car for 30-45 minutes while I would fire up the furnace and wall heaters to warm the place up. We would use buckets to flush the toilet and a 5 gal jug w/spigot to wash dishes, and general hygiene (wash hands/face, brush teeth). That wasn't quite enough, so I had to come up with a way for us to take a shower. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

When I was growing up, we had a cabin at this place. Most people in town moved out for a week or more. Cabins were much more rustic back then. Rough 1X8 or so oak boards with gaps for cooling. Note late summer. We had a Coca Cola ice box with block ice delivered every day. My dad and I made a shower out of a 55 gallon drum with propane heater under it. Drum was hung horizontal by 2 large straps. It worked to wash off the red clay dust and sawdust from the midway. http://www.neshobacountyfair.org/FairAlbum/index.htm

I would have had a hard time letting it go. But then again, Im not young, virile and motivated like Brettski. The new digs will be something to hehold.

Hey Brettski, real nice pictures, it sounds like you really enjoyed the place. Your description of going there in the winter sounds real familiar. When we go to the camp&pond my wife stays in the truck with our cat untill I warm it up to 60 degrees, I keep it at 45 to save on propane. Hope to retire there in 5 years. ( I thought my driveway was long at 800 ft., but yours is 2000, I hope you don't need to pave it!!)
