Wow that is a great looking fish. Looks like something that you'd have in an aquarium.

They are a beautiful fish. I spent a summer a couple years ago back-pack shocking Ozark streams in southern Missouri and we collected a lot of longears, some of them were pushing 8" with a couple a little over that.

I was never able to sample any that size by rod-n-reel though. I would have loved to have one to mount. However, I'm pretty sure most taxidermists would have a hard time trying to make a longear mount as colorful as the real thing.

They come in several different color/ear tab patterns. I was told by a couple of the guys at the MO Department of Conservation that the longears would possibly be split into 3 or 4 distinct species. I think Pflieger's "The Fishes of Missouri" book has a sentence or two on the same thing.

Longear are very cool. We caught a few of them this summer while trawling. They are native to most of the southern US so I would like to get some for my pond.

I used to catch a lot of longear in a favorite lake. They would take almost any bait, any time, and fought like little demons. A "big" one was only about 7". I often wished they would get as large as BG and RES.

Great fish, I love catching them in local streams here in Southern Ohio, but... I wasnt able to find any suppliers of them this spring for stocking purposes, anyone know of anywhere to get them?? Also, how do they compete with BG, HBG and RES in a pond??
Many thanks folks!
