I put 6 triangle tire structures into my pond this summer in about 3-6 feet of water. I added them as cover for LMB. Would these structures provide a sufficeint spawning structure for CC? These tires were not intended to be spawning habitat for CC but I would not be mad if the CC started to reproduce in the pond.

The tire structures were grouped into 3 tire structures. one tire layed flat on the ground and then 2 tires bound to it in a triangle formation.

Kind of like the 3-tire structures at the right and left of this pic?

CW says CC can use tires to spawn in, although IMHO tires are not as satisfactory for them as pipe & buckets. Tires just don't seem like they'd make as protected a cavity for the spawning CC to defend eggs & fry in.

I have had at least 2 different CC spawns in my main pond, both back when I had more pipes and buckets in to aid them in this effort than I currently do (there were no tires structures in the pond at the time). While they had successful recruitment, the number of CC that made it past the fingerling stage is fairly small. I would say that perhaps 30-40 adult CC resulted from all CC spawning activity in this 1 acre pond.

Most PMs with CC in BG/LMB ponds never see CC recruitemnt, regardless of the presence of spawning habitat. I seriously doubt you would have an objectionable number of CC make it to adulthood in your pond.

Thanks Theo, yes, those are the same tire structures I put in my pond last summer. Like I said they were not intended to be CC structures but that would be an added bonus. I assume most of the offspring would end up as LMB food. The ones that survive would end up as people food.
