In August of 2009 my friends conned me into competing in a triathlon. It is swimming 1.2 miles, biking for 50 miles, then running for 13 miles along lake michigan. That is I think 1/2 of an iron man.
Even at my current weight of 291 lbs I am actually good for the swimming and biking pretty competitively, but for the running I am going to have to drop a good 60 lbs by then. Training starts Nov 1st!
When I got married (right out of high school) 6 years ago I was a a tank at 6'-3" 210 lbs. Now I am more of a barge.
I am not going to win the even by any means, my goal is to finish all of the checkpoints in time to finish the race!

First of all, best of luck.
Second, if you also weighed 291 back in July, Nate, I didn't see where you were hiding a lot of it. I wish you could tell me, as concealing extra pounds on a 6'3" frame is a hobby of mine that I have been quite unsuccessful at.
Lastly, remember that Sunil could undoubtedly make it through the entire triathlon while carrying both of us on his shoulders. Let that be an inspiration to you.
P.S. If you drop those 60 lbs., your knees will thank you every day by the time you are my age. Some days, they will thank you every step.

Perhaps I can offer some words of wisdom for young n8ly.
First, it's not easy being the strongest man alive. That's why I keep a low profile. If everyone knew that I was the strongest man alive, they would constantly challenge me to various tests of strength and agility, and I would have no private time for myself.
Second, being the strongest man alive comes with a great responsibility to simply not crush other people on a daily basis.

Sunil, the only guy who can complete the triathlon carry a full ice chest of cold beer. I think he invented that hat you put a couple of beer cans on and has a tube going to your mouth.
In Dog Beers, I've had one.

I'm more of a Wet Paper Towel Man myself. Swim 30 feet, bike around the block, run to the couch and nap. But I'm working on it. I hope to get up to Dry Paper Towel Man next year. Good luck Natester!

Theo, I was 289 at the conference, XXL. Very big frame and a whole lot of meat! (with a nice layer of insulation for the winter)
Fatty, How much weight have you lost by now? Fat guys are always funnier than skinny folks!
Sunil, Absolutely no one knows about my incredible strength either! Sometimes I have problems turning down my strength with handshakes.
Thanks for the encouragement JHAP. I am going to train and compete in this race. I apologize ahead of time if I am not too funny for awhile. I figure the results from all the excercise for this event will last a good 2 or 3 years??? Than I will probably get my sense of humor back!

Keep it up, Fatty! That's a tought habit to kick.
I've gotten away from any regular exercise program, unforunately. I'm up to 250 now. Not the biggest I've been, but I've also been more muscular. I think I need to join Nate so I can get in better shape and drop a few lbs.
Good luck, Nate. Keep us posted on your progress and maybe you'll inspire some of us lazy bums to get off our duffs more often (read: to do something other than just find the remote).
