I am not ready for winter! Around here, you never know, so I prepped the pond area for winter this weekend.

The circulator, underwater light and on-board charger are on the time/temperature controller. For now everything comes on at in the evening and turns off is the morning if the temp drops below 25 degrees.

Here it is in operation this morning (just testing).

Glad to see you've got the pond ready, Dwight. I assume you're already wearing your union suit.

It's a short growing season up there to grow out big bass isn't it? \:D \:D \:D

I trust you have adjusted the directional control of "the fan"
in a reliable direction, waiting for final adjustments at ice- up. Does it spit water up on the mount quarter of the barge? We may have to go on a pre-ice recognoiter with my boat.

Good morning Dave, I've checked the ships systems, and everything appears to be running normally.

All the high tech jargon in the world isn't going to grow a 10 pound bass boys. \:\/

I don't understand what he trying to say, either.

I was just inquiring if everything was running in greased grooves.
No need to get upset with me.

Is that how Cecil's exercising now it's too cold to swim?

Dwight has finally come to the realization that he's got a better chance of winning the lottery than growing a 10 lb. bass in his arctic pond Stick. You'll have to excuse his grumpiness. I'm sure it wasn't personal. \:\/

We gave up on the swimming a couple of months ago. Once water temps drop below 75 it's too cold to swim. Maybe longer next year as I won't be running the trout pond into the swimming pond.

Stick,

No upset to it. I give Bill a lot of grief for not speaking English too. \:D

I went down there with my underwater camera and Darlene was sitting there looking at the underwater light. There was a puzzled look on her face, "why is the underwater light not on?"

She looks about 8 pounds now with the other two a little bigger. I may have to rename them Darlene the Large, Darlene the Giant, and Darlene the Humongous. For now though, they remain collectively, Darlene.

Rainman, That sounds like a summer project! Tilapia might have a problem living under 20 inches of ice. \:\(

How long will they survive in a Minnesota pond even in the summer? A month or two? \:D \:D \:D

Things always look bigger on camera. Even people!

The blues die at 45 degrees. Females start spawning about every 3-4 weeks when the temps hit 55-60. they grow best at 82.

Just for fun, I turned off the bio-filter last week in one tank. The fish feeding never slowed even at ammonia levels of 11 ppm. I didn't want to see just how high the levels would go before being lethal so I restarted the filter.

That month or two with 100-200 4 month old tilapia will most likely produce over 200 pounds of NATURAL high protien, high fat forage for fall!
