I have tried to use the search feature to track some old topics and it now seems to not work.

I put in a commonly used word (tilapia) and did the search for post newer than 1 month----ZERO results. (I KNOW this word has been used in at least 20 posts in the last month)

I did it again with the parameters of OLDER than 1 week----3 results 1 from 2007, one from 2006, and one from 2004.

I've tried the search on many other topics as well. Sometimes the search works well, but not often anymore.

Any ideas? Is the search feature malfunctioning or am I just more stupid than usual?

I've always been frustrated by UBB.threads search function. It is pretty bad.

OK, I just searched over the last month for "tilapia", in all forums. I got three screens of results.

Rainman, give it another shot and doublecheck everything. If you get zilch again, I may have to take some screen shots of a "correctly" loaded search window and post them as photos.

Theo, I did as rquested for "newer than 1 week" and a BUNCH came up! That is my concern/point. The last month or so, it seems to not work more than it does.

I double-checked my spelling and everything before I started the thread------I just don't know.

I have found in my "search" adventures that, like Theo stated previously, if you double check everything in your search window you are likely to get better results. Here's what I do

Insert your search terms in the "Keyword Search Terms" box and not in the "Display Name Search" box. If you use the Display Name Search box you almost never get a hit. Make sure that box is empty. You can click on advanced search terms to narrow down your search somewhat if you want to.

Make sure the "In name and Body" button is "on."

Make sure that the "Nothing Newer Than Field" is completely empty - both boxes.

I usually put "Older than 1 Day" in the second date field. You won't get the posts in the past 24 hours but that is easy enough to see using the "Active Topics" functions.

This ususally gets me what I want. If I don't get the hits I'm looking for it's usually because I have messed up the input.

Try this as a test put the word sheep in the Keyword Search Terms box. Make sure the "In name and Body" button is "on." Make sure that the "Nothing Newer Than Field" is completely empty - both boxes - you have to click on the second box in this field and move the cursor to the blank space to ensure both boxes are empty. Put "Older than 1 Day" in the second date field. I leave the 25 hits per page alone for no particuar reason.

This should yield three pages of hits. Over 50 hits.

Which begs the question, why are sheep discussed so much on Pond Boss?

This isn't fool proof however. For instance use the follow the same steps above and use the word Koi. You will not get any hits. Yet if you look under the "corrective stocking" category there are threads that use the word Koi both in the subject matter and in the actual thread.

So basically I don't know what I'm talking about. But then again that should not come as a surprise to anyone.

Why are you listening to me anyway?

I usually use google to search the current site (which would be pondboss in this case). It seems to be more accurate.

Wow! Why didn't I think of that? I set up a custom Google search for the Pond Boss site. I now have a Google Pond Boss Search Site. Fantastic. Fast.

Thanks BBJR! \:\)

If you don't already have a Google Tool Bar, go to Google and set one up for our browser.

Once you have the Tool Bar, choose 'MORE.'

Go to 'Even More . . .'

Click on 'Custom Search'. Set up a Custom Search for http://www.pondboss.com/forums and save the address as a bookmark or favorite.

Choose the bookmark/favorite when you want to find something on Pond Boss. Search for something obtuse like "unbelievable pink hat" and see what comes up.

You can also just go to google and type your keyword(s) with "site:pondboss.com" after it..

So if you want to search for 'smallmouth beds', google:

smallmouth beds site:pondboss.com

You'll get these as your results:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&c...com&btnG=Search

You can also just click "advanced search" on google and get to the various options, including searching on just one site. I always use google for searches on PB..

2 pages of Smallmouth Bed hits (above), 7 pages of Bruce pink hat hits. We've sure got our priorities on straight.

How many different types of beans are we dealing with?

How many of each type of beans are there?

What is the percentage of each bean type to total beans?

Is the number of beans constant or variable?

Are any graphs or charts available?

That is a very incomplete answer GW.

I tried to access things we've discussed in regards to European perch, and I tried European Perch:pondboss.com,

and nothing came up. \:\(

Any other ideas on finding archived materials on European Perch? I know Cecil has discussed it before.
