is there a good way to rid herons and kingfishers legally? i have posted before that my pond new pond has many goldfish in it ( kinda accidentally). seems that it has attracted unwanted birds.

i am afraid they are going to get too many of my bg. i can see where one of the birds sits on my dock and has ate several fish.

I you don't live in a residential area, and have the where-with-all, one of these will take care of your birds.

Good morning Dave, I've checked the ships systems, and everything appears to be running normally.

They can get used to that cannon believe it or not. I use staked lines around my ponds edges with good success but if I have a bird that won't take no for an answer I pop him. However I do have a permit to take two out a year since I engage in aquaculture. It cost me $100.00.

I sent you a P.M.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

seems like my fish have really slowed down on feeding since the birds showed up a week ago. maybe its just the cooler temps. i figured the birds were spooking the fish.

Cecil.
I don't know if you are still having problems, but I accidently discovered a useful tool.

I used bamboo as structure and a piece about 4" in diameter and 6 or 7 feet long floated to the top. The heron like to sit on it and help themselves. It is often out in the open and affords an easy shot.

Last weekend, I caught my first fish (a 12" LMB) that had the tell-tale signs of a heron attack - a healing wound on the forward back.

I have the same problem and it is continuous. I pepper them and they fly away. They do not get used to the gun and they manage to see it very quickly. They are able to see someone in the window watching them, very smart birds. This is an almost every day thing during the summer and into the present time of year.

Heck with that 50cal you could hit the bird from the next county over. Course you better make sure you know what is down range.

That might be a little over kill, Chris, just a little.

I've had a little luck with the GBH decoy made by Flambeau.

I still see them every now and then but not as bad as before. It is so realistic I would swear I saw one try to get busy with it.

I can't wait to hear what Jeff has to say about this... \:D \:D

1 acre pond, slopes to 15ft depth. Has BG and few LMB plus a half dozen pesky sliders.

Thankfully we aren't talking about sheep here.

(eagerly awaiting a Theo rimshot)

FINALLY!

Jeez, it took me almost twenty five hundred posts to earn a Theo rimshot.

Further evidence that persistance pays off.
