Finally! Pond Boss is now in 50 BassPro stores all over the nation. If any of you get a chance to stop by one of the stores, let us know where the magazine sits and what you think. And, it would be totally okay with all of us if you buy one or two...or three.

Guys,
I just had a customer in Idaho tell me that Dick's Sporting Goods stores is working on a deal to buy out Cabelas. Anybody know if that's true?

Haven't heard that one Cecil but looks like Cabelas could buy out Dick's SG: Cabela's runs its stores efficiently. It averages about $348 in sales per square foot, versus $197 per square foot for rival Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS: 19.33*, -1.60, -7.64%). Other competitors, like Bass Pro, which will have 48 stores by year end, and L.L. Bean, with eight retail stores and 13 outlet stores, are privately held and do not publish retail-sales data. http://www.smartmoney.com/barrons/index.cfm?story=20070823

We'll be in the Bass Pro Shop in Vegas in a couple of weeks. I'll be on the look out for the magazine when we are there.

Mrs. Bing and I are going to Nashville next weekend to attend the 83rd Birthday Party of the Grand Ole Opry (Sunil, I know you are a great music fan, but don't eat your heart out over it since tickets are sold out). We'll check for Pond Boss at the Opry Mills BPS.

Maybe I'm performing there at the celebration....or maybe I'm not performing there, as far as you know.

Kenny Rogers and Lorrie Morgan will be there. Does that count for anything?

Dicks Sporting Goods is a giant in the sporting goods market sector. Dick's has over 160% of the gross sales and net revenue of Cabelas. I guess anything is possible but with Cabelas trading at about $12 per share and Dicks at about $19 per share I think the likelyhood of Cabelas buying Dicks is slim. But then again it is the stock market and stranger things have happened.

Is this Old Time Country enough for you?
Kenny Rogers, Lorrie Morgan, Darryl Worley, Jeannie Seely, Jean Shepard, Jimmy C. Newman, Riders In The Sky?

Yes, this is the country music with integrity.

What about Buck Owens? He only ever recorded 2 songs. One was "Tiger by the Tail", and the other wasn't.

What other country music is there?? David Alan Coe for instance??? Some of the new country isn't country, it's more pop or rock. I miss Johnny Cash sometimes.

Theo, I always liked Buck's "Act Naturally". A lot of these young guys (under 70) probably thought Ringo wrote that one.
Just do it...

We had the 1st TV in our town. Mom, dad, and I used to watch Opry when Ernest Tubb, Carl Smith, Farin Young, Goldie Hill, et al. were on. Of course Rod Brassfield and Minnie Pearl with the comedy skits. Dang, times were a lot simpler back then. That was about the same time dad would tune in the radio to a Marciano fight, or Amos and Andy.
